As Emerson and Mattheo stepped back into the glow of the common room, the scene was noticeably louder than when they left it. Laughter echoed off the stone walls and the amplified music thudded in the background that it would definitely leave a headache the next morning.
Their friends were still in the same spot as when they left. Olivia was laughing so hard she had tears in her eyes, clinging to Enzo's arm as he slurred his way through some ridiculous story about mistaking a suit of armour for a prefect in Second Year.
Enzo's face lit up when he saw them. "Oi, look who's back from their secret rendezvous in the shadows!"
Olivia leaned around him with a teasing smirk. "Did you get lost, or just conveniently disappear together?"
Theo, still leaning against the wall with a half-full drink and a perfectly raised eyebrow, was the only one not visibly drunk. He took one look at Emerson and Mattheo and noticed their flushed cheeks, their slightly messed hair, and Mattheo's hand still brushed against the small of her back.
Mattheo snorted. "Disappointed we're back?"
"Maybe a little," Theo shrugged innocently, swirling the limoncello drink in his cup. "You were gone long enough for Olivia to try teaching Enzo how to waltz, so either you got hexed, or you're both bad at subtlety."
Emerson rolled her eyes, though a blush bloomed beneath her skin. "We were just talking."
Theo gave a dry, pointed look. "Right. With your lips?"
Mattheo smirked, unbothered. "Had to confiscate her drink," He lied, jerking a thumb toward Emerson. "She was getting unruly."
Emerson shot him a deadpan look, which made Theo snort softly into his glass. "Right. That's the story we're going with, then?"
Olivia clapped her hands loudly. "Drinking game time!" She declared, her eyes gleaming mischievously. "We're playing Never Have I Ever. Rules are: if you've done it, you drink. No lying, no backing out, and definitely no pretending something 'doesn't count.'"
Emerson and Mattheo exchanged a glance, somewhere between wary and intrigued.
Olivia glanced at the two of them as Theo sat down next to her, grinning. "You two joining or are you still too busy eye-fucking each other?"
"Liv!" Emerson choked, laughing despite the flare of embarrassment.
"Don't act like I'm wrong," Olivia sing-songed, waving her bottle.
"Come on, sit," Enzo grinned, offering Emerson a full cup. "You've got catching up to do."
Emerson settled down on the ground, and Mattheo immediately sat next to her, his thigh resting against hers. One of his arms draped loosely around her waist without question, and no one pointed it out, though Theo's smirk definitely deepened.
