Despite the shock that one of their own was poisoned, the castle returned to its usual rhythm over the next few days: students shuffling to classes with books clutched tightly to their chests, the echo of laughter in the courtyards, and the distant screech of owls arriving with letters at breakfast.

Ron remained in the Hospital Wing, pale but stable. Emerson and Olivia saw him briefly in passing when Madam Pomfrey allowed a few friends in for short visits. His freckles were stark against his sickly skin, and Hermione hadn't left his side once.

Ginny, brushing past Emerson and Olivia one morning in the corridor, murmured quickly, "He's better. Still groggy, but better," before disappearing into the crowd.

That was the only comfort.

Harry, however, hadn't said a word to Emerson since that night. He looked directly past her in every corridor and classroom, as if she were invisible. It hurt more than she wanted to admit. She hadn't expected instant forgiveness, but she hadn't expected to be frozen out like she didn't matter, considering she tried to comfort him and be there for him when he needed it.

Still, it wasn't the silence from Harry that truly surprised her. It was something else.

Theo and George.

Emerson blinked when she first found out about it from Olivia who casually mentioned it while they were walking back from the Hospital Wing. It stopped Emerson in her tracks. Fortunately, Mattheo left to find Blaise for an assignment while Theo went to find Enzo before dinner so it was just the girls together.

"They talked," Olivia explained, shrugging as if it wasn't a huge revelation. "George and Theo. Properly."

"What do you mean, talked?" Emerson narrowed her eyes. "You mean yelled. Argued. Fought."

"No," Olivia shook her head. "I mean talked. Like—really talked. After that whole heated moment, when Theo followed us and everything came spilling out...  George was angry at first but then he listened. Theo was—Merlin, he was honest. I think they realised... They both care about me."
