The library was warm and golden, lit only by floating candles and the soft glow of desk lamps. Most students had already left for the night, leaving only the faint scratching of quills, the occasional page turning, and Madam Pince muttering to herself as she reorganised shelves in the distance.

Olivia sat between Theo and Ariel at one of the wooden study tables, parchment spread in front of her and quills scattered everywhere. Ariel leaned over her Herbology book with the kind of enthusiasm Olivia wished all students had. Theo, meanwhile, had his head buried in his massive, crumbling tome that definitely wasn't part of the Hogwarts library. Next to him was a half-finished cup of coffee, which was stone cold by now.

"Okay," Olivia began, pulling Ariel's Herbology essay closer. "So, what do fluxweed and knotgrass have in common when grown under moonlight conditions?"

Ariel lit up instantly, trying to find the answer. "They both grow better on nights with low cloud cover because the moonlight is more diffused!"

"Yes," Olivia nodded, smiling. "Good. And what does that mean for potion use?"

"That..." Ariel frowned, tapping the quill against her cheek before her expression brightened again. "That they're more potent? So, I think you need less of them in moonlight-based brews?"

"Exactly," Olivia confirmed, gently nudging the essay back toward her. "Try to write that down in your own words. You've already got a great start, just make sure you explain the why, not only the what."

Ariel nodded vigorously and bent over her parchment, scribbling with excitement.

Olivia watched her for a moment, patient and pleased, before adding. "And don't forget to mention that fluxweed harvested under a waxing moon is stronger than under a full moon."

Ariel's head shot up, perplexed. "Wait, really? Why?"

"Because the plant stores the lunar energy to help it grow," Olivia replied, her Ravenclaw knowledge shining through. "Once the moon is full, it releases some of that energy, so you're not getting as strong a concentration."

"That makes so much sense! Like magical photosynthesis!"

Olivia laughed. "Exactly like that. Professor Sprout also wants you to explain why Moondew spores react differently during the lunar cycle... Not just that they do."

Ariel nodded eagerly. "Right! Because they glow brighter on full moons—,"

"You've got it," Olivia agreed with a smile. "Remember though, you need to explain why they glow brighter to get a good grade. Think of the spores like... Tiny magical sensors. They absorb ambient lunar magic and release it as luminescence."

Ariel's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "So, they're like little moon batteries?"

Olivia laughed at the silly wording, even though Ariel was entirely correct. "Yes, pretty much. Write that down. Just maybe not the word 'batteries.'"
