Following her chat with Mattheo in the library, he returned back to his normal and usual irritating actions, which meant the two were back to their constant bickering over everything yet nothing. Their interactions were a ceaseless dance of discord, with their words clashing together like swords in a never-ending duel.

Despite their turbulent exchanges, Emerson didn't bring up the subjects of the Potions assignment or Anthony Goldstein again. She could've, but she knew it was a complete waste of time. Despite Emerson's earlier suspicions of other motivations or influences, she convinced herself that they did not exist.

Even though she initially didn't believe him, she finally concluded that Mattheo was not hiding anything beyond his cold and icy exterior. His fiery denial ended any of her theories behind his actions. His heart was a fortress of ice, impenetrable and unyielding that influenced his tempest of violent tendencies. It was as if he had been carved from stone as the son of Voldemort, leaving no room for vulnerability or tenderness. There was no possibility of his actions being motivated by anything, other than his own destructive and violent dispositions.

Beyond the looming shadow of Mattheo in her life, Emerson was finally given the opportunity Harry, Ron and Hermione finally organised the first Defence Against the Dark Arts meeting. It took some time for them to arrange it but after a few weeks after the meeting at the Hogs Head, they managed to find a location hidden away at Hogwarts from Umbridge's pouchy eyes. Apparently, there were not that many secretive locations in the grand castle where over twenty people could meet up in secrecy and learn defensive magic.

They also experienced a great hurdle in the road after the Hogsmeade weekend, when Umbridge banned all student organisations that weren't approved by the Ministry of Magic. All school organisations, from the Quidditch teams to the Charms classes, needed written approval from Umbridge to continue their activities, despite their long-standing presence in the school.

It was oddly suspicious that the particular Educational Decree was issued right after their meeting, but if Umbridge had solid evidence about their intentions and planning, they would've all been punished by now. She clearly had some sort of sniff about their plans, but interestingly, they were still scheming right underneath her toad-like nose. Of course, the tightening of the school rules just meant an increase of sneakier behaviour. Luckily for them, and unluckily for Umbridge, the Golden Trio knew how to avoid getting in trouble which meant they were a few steps ahead of that awful toad.

Earlier that week, Hermione slid Emerson and Olivia a note under the Gryffindor table with the details, including the time and location, of the first meeting. She didn't want to speak aloud, to avoid being overhead or lip-read from a staring Mattheo in Emerson's case.

When they were finally away from the Great Hall, the two girls read the note. They were both in agreement about attending, and walked towards the seventh floor at half-past seven on Wednesday night. They agreed with the other Ravenclaws to walk in staggered groups so that, if they did run into a Professor, it didn't look as suspicious as opposed to walking in a large group of ten or so people. A large group of students congregating together on the seventh floor at the same time would look extremely suspicious if Filch, or even worse, Umbridge, found them.
