'Bad. Bad bad bad.'
The word repeated in her head several times as Yuuma looked at the pirates with fear. One moment, she and Grim were looking for human things. The next thing she knew, pirates pulled over, and here she was in a net as sway above the water. Surrounded by pirates who sneered and eyed her like they had found a sunken treasure.
"Ay! Looky here, mates! A mermaid!" One of them shouted as another grabbed the net to bring her closer. She leaned further back into the rough ropes to get as far from the human as possible.
She narrowed her eyes firmly at him as he analyzed her up and down. "Ay. And a pretty one, too." He commented, grinning at her. His hand reached out for her face.
SMACK!
"Ow!"
The crew cackled in laughter when the pirate was met with a slap from her blue tail. He fell back on the floor, and the mermaid smiled proudly at the redness forming on his cheek. A perfect shape of her tail fin imprinted on his skin. Net or no net, Yuuma refused to be kidnapped without a fight.
She watched as the pirate stood up, rubbing his face as he shot a glare. She stared back at him fiercely, keeping that look of satisfaction on her face. That only infuriated him as he growled fustrated, turning back to the crew.
"Bring her on board, mates! And get something to hold her tail down! We got-" He barked orders, but before he could finish his sentence, the ship rocked violently, bringing the whole crew down to their knees and bottoms. Yuuma held onto the net strongly as it rocked back and forth, her body moving it with it.
"Oi! What was that?!" Her webbed ears perked up at one of their voices. As the crew got back on their feet, they scanned their ship cautiously, unsure of what was so powerful to move their ship.
"Was it a whale?"
"Ay, it can't be. We would've seen it."
She listened as they talked and wondered amongst each other. Suddenly, the net was tugged down, and she felt her face fall against the rough rope. As she started pushing herself up, she almost screamed when she was met with green eyes staring at her.
"Leona?"
The mer-lion beastman stared back at her, holding onto the net. "Not a word." He whispered, glancing at the pirates to find them still distracted. "Get out of here. Or they'll catch you too." She insisted, though that earned an unimpressed look from him. "Says the one who got captured and sent the furball to wake me up." He remarked, smirking when she shot an annoyed look at him.
"Ay! Do you think it's the mermaid?"
The two looked at each other with panic when they heard one of the pirates speak and turned to look at the crew as they started to turn their attention back to the mermaid in the net.
"Oi, mermaid! What did ya-ack!"
As if luck favored them, a ball of water hit the pirate that Yuu struck with her tail. He swerved his back, growling in fustration only to meet another water ball to the face.
"Nyahahaha! Face the mighty Grim, stupid pirates!"
"Grim?" Yuuma blinked in surprise to see the sea cat, leaping out of the water and shooting a couple of water balls at the pirates. He laughed mockingly at them, taunting and teasing them as the pirates directed their fury at him.
"Good thing the cat listens." Leona mumbled, retracting his claws and brushing it against the ropes of the net. "King's Roar." He said, and Yuuma's eyes widened in amazement to see specks of sand drip from his fingers, changing the powerful thread into golden sands.
As the net faded away, a nice cut-out hole formed under her. Alright. That should do it. Get out, now." He commanded, and she easily slipped out of the hole and into the water with a splash as Leona joined her.
"Huh?!" The crew turned around at the splash, and their jaws dropped to find their catch empty. "Nyaha!" They turned back to Grim, who stood on the wooden edge of the ship, smiling triumphantly. "Grim one, pirates zero!" He sneered at them, leaping up and sticking his tongue at them before he returned back to the water, leaving the pirates to fume and yell out in fustration.
Back in the water, Leona, Yuuma, and Grim beat their tails strongly against the water to swim as far away as they could from the pirates. "Can we stop now? I think we're far enough?" Yuuma asked, feeling her tail getting sore.
"Yeah. My legs and tail are hurting." Grim complained, letting his companion carry him in her arms once she found him slowing down. "Quit your complaining. We're almost there." He replied nonchalantly, glancing back at them.
His green eyes narrowed at the black and blue mermaid, making her turn away like a child caught in trouble by their parent. He shook his head at her disapprovingly before looking ahead. He knew the so-called prefect was troublesome, but he didn't think to the point where she would risk being caught by pirates. Even he knew to stay clear of them.
"We're here." He informed them, making Yuu and Grim look up ahead to see the familair rocky entrance of his home. "Inside. Now." He ordered, letting them go first. The mer-lion beastman scanned the surroundings again for any signs of the pirates following them, eyeing the surface. Once assured nothing was out of sorts, he followed after them inside with his golden tail disappearing inside.
"Phew. I'm beat. I feel like a pufferfish that got puffed to the last bit." Leona heard Grim grumbled tiredly as he watched Yuuma set the sea cat down on a seashell. He gladly stretched on the softer pillow of shell, gladly letting sleep take him.
Yuuma sat down on the rock, next to the opened seashell. She ran her hand through his fur, rolling her eyes at his words. Regardless, she did smile at him, grateful for his distraction.
Her eyes move to Leona as he swam towards her. "Are you hurt?" He asked her, his green eyes analyzed her for any injuries. "Nope. I'm alright. Thanks. Also, thank you for the rescue. If Grim hadn't brought you, I would've been the newest item on the menu." She joked, but part of it, she meant it. She didn't wish to know what these pirates were going to do with her.
He nodded to her, taking a seat next to her. His ears fell, sighing tiredly as he let his back lie on the smooth surface of a rock. "Looks like you're stuck with me for the night." He said, slightly bothered as he closed his eyes.
Yuuma raised an eyebrow at him, confused. "Seriously? You were the one that made us come. Just like you were the one that came to rescue me." She reminded him with a smirk. The lion shot a glare at her before closing his eyes. The prefect shrugged, familiar with his behavior as she turned away.
"Yuuma."
Her webbed ears perked up again at his voice, turning back to him. She was surprised when he sat up, staring at her with a serious look. Yet, it surprised her when his emerald eyes held concern in them. "Look. I don't care about those human things you love collecting. But don't let that take your attention away from your surroundings."
"If you don't pay attention to what you do..." as he spoke, she watched his hand gently settle on his scar, running down against. "You'll find life leave a scar on you. Without warning." He advised her, having a solemn look on his face. As if trying to reach back and old memory of his scar.
Yuuma gave a saddened look at him, wondering if his own experience was what drove him to come for her. Glancing at his bright golden tail, her blue and back one wrapped around at the tail fin.
His ears shot up alert and glanced down at their tails connected. "Alright." He turned his face to her, finding a small smile. "Next time, I'll pay attention. That way, you can enjoy your nap uninterrupted." She assured him.
Leona felt his face reddened, and he turned away, growling with his ears flattened. He heard Yuu giggle amusingly before she started yawning. "Goodnight, Leona." He heard her say before watching her fall asleep. He smiled a little, tightening his tail fin around hers protectively. "Yeah, yeah. Goodnight, herbivore."
