Yuuma's hands brushed the sand, her blue eyes scanning for 'human things' as her people called it. "Found anything, Grim?" She called out, not turning away from her search.
As her black and blue scales on her arms glowed, a shimmer caught her eyes. Her eyes went to a piece of glass embedded in the ocean floor. As she stared at it curiously, she felt something hard hit her head.
"Ow!" Her hand went to soothe the pain as she saw an empty tuna float in front of her. The culprit to her head bump. Unfortunately, the mermaid knew the source of it as she looked behind her, glaring. "Grim! Stop digging for canned tuna! I told you! Only the surface has it!"
She scolded, watching a mini sand storm and a tail poking out. Its bright blue fins stood out from the yellow sand as it dispersed in the water. Finally, Grim's head popped out, his webbed ears poking out.
"Hey, this place got no tuna or treasures. When are we gonna find something good?" He complained, digging his paws against the sand furiously. Yuuma shook her head at him before turning her attention back.
As her hands worked to clean the sand away, she found the mysterious object to be a mirror. Her eyes grew large in interest, carefully lifting it up to examine in better. It was a handheld mirror, encased in silver and in good condition. "Hey Grim! Look! I found a mirror!" She announced excitedly, holding it to look at herself.
Her blue hair with black highlights spread out in the water wildly. Her body was most black scales around her neck and arms, while her chest had blue scales. Her tail was a mix of those colors with lighter purple fins and a tail.
"Not now! I'm busy, henchmen!" She rolled her eyes, getting sligtky bothered, but then a mishevious smile spread on her face as an idea formed.
She held the mirror at Grim's direction, tilting it an angle. A little light appeared on the ocean floor, next to the sea cat. He glanced at it briefly but then snapped his head back to it. She smirked in triumphant when she saw his blue eyes grew big in interest.
She had to stifle any laughter as she crouched down, shaking his rear end before lunging for it. The sand came up and got in his nose, making him sneeze. Yuuma giggled, admiring his cuteness.
She turned the mirror to direct the light in another direction. Grim eagerly chased after it, leaving a cloud of sand as he pounced on it repeatedly.
Yuuma eventually started laughing, unable to control herself from the cuteness. She was so distracted that she didn't realize where she was going.
Yuuma then angled it at a large rock above them. Grim glanced up and climbed the rock, chasing his target. However, not even a few seconds later, she suddenly found the cat racing down from the rock and swimming towards her. "Grim? What's wrong?" She asked, bewildered.
"Oi, herbivore!"
She froze, recognizing that grumpy voice anywhere. Reluctantly glancing up, she found a lion mer-beast, staring down at her. His golden tail lay on the rock, its scales shimmering like jewels as he glared at her agitated.
"Leona! Hey! I didn't know you were napping here!" She explained, smiling nervously at him. "It was her fault." Grim immediately accused, and Yuuma turned around with a glare, smacking his head as punishment.
Leona's green eyes spotted the mirror in her hand. "Let me guess? You're out hunting for those dumb human things again, aren't you?" He pointed out, staring at it unimpressed.
She glared at him, slighly offended. "They're not dumb. Their useful." She defended against him, watching the mer-lion yawn. She sighed, finding it impossible to debate with him. If something didn't have his interest, then he wasn't gonna fight for it.
He turned his back to her as his tail was the only thing showing. "Swim away, little herbivore. And let me nap, in peace." He dismissed her casually, waving her off with a hand. "Yeah, yeah. We got it your royal laziness." She shot back, annoyed at him as she and Grim swam away to continue their search.
A few hours passed as Leona enjoyed his nap peacefully with no curious mermaid or loud sea cat to bug him. He almost smiled in his nap until his ears twitched at a sound. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion, opening his eyes to make out the sound as it got closer.
"LEONA!!!!"
Crash!
Suddenly, Leona felt something heavy crash into him, knocking him off the rock he was napping on. His face met the sea floor, groaning in pain. "Leona! Leona! Leona! We have a problem! A BIG problem!" Lifting his face from the floor, he found the culprit to be Grim, who anxiously jumped on Leona's tail with a panicked look.
"Stop shouting!" He demanded, irritated, grabbing the sea cat by his scruff. "What are you yelling about?! And where's herbivore?!" He demanded, glaring his green eyes intensely him. Once he got his answers, he was gonna have a word with that blue and black haired mermaid mermaid.
"She's been captured!"
The anger on his face fell, replaced with shock at those words. 'Wasn't she looking for humant things?' He thought, wondering how it led to thag. But then his brows furrowed, having a sinking feeling on what this meant. "Who?" He stared at Grim with a firm glare at the cat squirmed in his hold.
"Pirates! They were pirates! We were looking around for human things, and then a net came and took Yuuma!" Grim explained frantically, waving his paws all over.
Pirates. Of course, pirates. Leona assumed that Yuuma had gotten distracted and didn't pay attention. There were certain areas in the ocean that pirates would hang around just to catch easily distracted mermaids. Unfortunately for them, they were gonna have to deal with him. Especially because they just interrupted his nap and had his herbivore.
He let Grim go, ignoring the cat's complaints at Leona being too rough with his fur. "So what we're supposed to do? Distract them or something?" Grim asked, eyes huge in panic. However, his words made Leoma smirk as his green eyes glowed menacingly.
"Precisely."
