In this moment, this is Riddle and Cosette's first meeting, so this is how they met. (takes place shortly before book 1)
"When you said the flower grew to be a mile high, I did not think it would be THAT high!"
Riddle stated with a wide eye expression. He stood outside the dorm where he could see from below a giant rose, poking right through a giant hole that was made in the roof, probably from flower when it sprouted.
The housewarden was gaping at it as Cater and Trey shared the same facial expressions. "Yeah. That's why we asked you to come see this for yourself. It was pretty unbelievable with how tall it grew." Cater told him, nervous to see how the housewarden would react.
"Yeah....we were all doing our own thing when the dorm started shaking, and we suddenly found that giant flower shoot right through the roof." Trey gave more information, tilting his hat up. The third year felt sorry for whoever performed that spell in that dorm. He just hoped he and Cater could convince Riddle to go easy on them.
The three nearly jumped when they heard creaking and glanced back to the ceiling. The giant flower was moving and slipped back inside the dorm. Riddle's eyes followed the plant to see where it was retreating. That way, he could have a clue on where it originated from.
"That's coming from the freshmen quarters...." Riddle realized as his eyes followed it downward. As he started to come to that theory, his eyes widened in rage. "I should've known the freshemn would get into trouble! I bet it was Trappola again!"
Cater and Trey looked at the housewarden, terrified when he made that conclusion, and started storming ahead to find the person behind it. The two third years followed after the second year, trying to calm his anger.
"R-Riddle! Let's be reasonable here." Trey pleaded, trying to keep up with the housewarden. "Yeah! You know the first years. Their beginners! They probably were messing around, and the magic went haywire!" Cater reasoned while some of the other students got out of the way. When Riddle came with that angry look on his face, they did not want to be caught in his path.
"Rule 42 states that all persons more than a mile high must leave the court immediately." Riddle stated firmly to his classmates, not taking his eyes off the flower as it shrunk back to a smaller height. He was having none of it and was determined to punish the rulebreaker.
As his eyes trailed down to where the plant was leading, he spotted a person up ahead in the garden. They were casting magic on the flower, bringing it back to a normal height. Nevertheless, Riddle believed they still needed to be punished for breaking one of the queen's rules.
Riddle stomped over to them, summoning his scepter in his hand to cast his signature spell. "Excuse me! But are you the one who -" the red hair started asking them, glaring at the person. But when they turned around, Riddle suddenly found his words stuck, and he got caught off guard.
The person turned out to be a girl with warm tan skin. Her wavy hair was a dark lavender purple, resting on her shoulders with a white headband resting on her head. She had light pink eyes that shimmered torwarss him. Her attire was the same as the rest of the dorm with some differences like the white skirt with red frills, her long black socks matching with red flats and the white turtleneck with red frills to match her skirt.
Riddle felt his face reddened, but to his surprise, he didn't feel any anger. He felt warm but in a good way. The angry scolding that he had prepared was lost and got caught in his throat. Riddle didn't have a clue what was happening.
It wasn't just him, though. Cater and Trey were also staring with blush on their faces. Cater rubbed the back of his neck nervously while Trey tilted his hat down to hide the blushing. The three had to admit that the new first year was very pretty.
"Yes?"
Riddle snapped out of his stunned stupor when she spoke. Her voice was soft with an English accent to it. So did the third years who collected themselves. "Um....I...well....hi??"
Cater and Trey looked at Riddle in alarm, and even Riddle himself was shocked. He couldn't remember the last time he stuttered like that. Not even as a kid. And he had met other girls before. But this one seemed to have caught him off guard, and his whole demeanor was completely gone.
The girl looked at him with a puzzled look until she spotted Cater and Trey's own shocked expressions at the housewarden. Her eyebrows rose, piecing the puzzles together. She started smiling, a bit amused at their reactions. Especially seeing how red Riddle's cheeks were. They were kind of cute.
"Hello. It seems there's been a misstep in our introduction. Shall we begin at the beginning?" She suggested to them. Riddle shook his head to pull himself together from whatever daze he was in. Her gentle voice brought him back to reality, and he remembered his friends were watching him, so he had to get back his composure as housewarden.
"Yes. I am Riddle Rosehearts. Housewarden of Heartsabuyl. And you might be?" He cleared his throat and introduced himself, maintaining a calm look on his face.
The girl smiled at him, and he felt his heartbeat from that smile. It was shining from that light pink lipstick she wore, and her eyes had this tint of opal to them.
"I'm Cosette. Cosette Couer." The purple hair girl introduced herself. "A pleasure to meet you. Oh, and this is Trey Clover, the vice housewarden..." Trey tilted his hat up to her, smiling at the freshmen. "And this is Cater Diamond, one of our third years." Cater winked at her, earning a giggle from her.
"It's nice to meet you. I'm assuming you're here because of my flower." She mentioned, turning back to the plant, now in its original height. "I'm aware that breaks rule 42. Sorry about that, housewarden." She apologized sincerely
"I was practicing a spell when one of the little hedgehogs popped out and startled me." She explained, glancing to her shoulder. That's when Riddle noticed a red hedgehog perched on her shoulder.
'Alright. So I can't blame her for this completely. Not to mention, I have to now figure out how the hedgehog got loose into the dorm rooms.' He thought in his head, trying to thoroughly understand the situation now that he found the culprit.
His silver eyes went to Cosette as she gently brushed her finger on the snout of the hedgehog. The small animal purred affectionately as she awed at it fondly. He wasn't sure why, but it made him smile a little.
His eyes went to the flower she grew and back to her. That's when it hit that she was a first year, so Cosette should've been a beginner with magic. Making a plant grow that tall is a difficult spell, Riddle recalled. It isn't master until second or third year.
"So you grew that flower yourself a mile high. Hm. Not bad." He commented, impressed. "Well. I will let this one slide. Seeing how no one got hurt and it wasn't intentional, I will spare you from punishment Cosette." The housewarden informed, trying to keep himself collected.
"But this is only one warning. The next time you break a rule, it will be off with your head." He warned her, waving a finger at the girl.
Cater and Trey were watching this with wide eye expressions and their mouths gaping. "I thought for sjre with how mad Riddle was, that she was gonna get it." Cater whispered to his friend, not taking his eyes off the whole ordeal.
"Y-Yeah. Riddle completely changed the moment he got a look at her. Although he's right. Cosette did perform a spell that takes a lot of skill. Maybe he was so surprise with how well she performed such an advanced spell, despite being a first year." Trey theorized. He had never seen the housewarden suddenly hesitate with giving out a punishment. Usually, it was swift and quick.
"Thank you, housewarden. I'll make sure there won't be another misstep." Cosette promised him, winking at him. Riddle felt his cheeks flush and his heart beating. He wasn't sure if her wink implied something, but it made his composure shake.
"Alright. Good to hear. I will take the hedgehog back with the others." He announced. Cosette passed the animal to him as it scrambled to his shoulder. "Trey. Cater. Let's go, shall we. I will see you around, Cosette." Riddle made small bow to her before leaving swiftly enough so his classmates couldn't see his reddened face.
Trey and Cater looked at the housewarden for a bit, still dumbfounded. They turned to Cosette, offering her a quick smile before taking their leave. The girl giggled amusingly before she went back to tending her flower. "Not bad for a first impression, eh my little flower?" She spoke to it gently, caressing the petals.
