A/N
Oh my God, how are we at part 10 and not done yet?? I really want to write a story about Demon Wei Ying getting a job at Lan Corp, but it must wait!!! Only a few more parts left (hopefully!!)...
************
Lan Zhan looks up and sees a blur attach itself to Wei Ying's thigh as the man laughs and picks up the bundle of robes. It's a child, more specifically, it's A-Yuan. Wei Ying ruffles the hair on his head and then proceeds to kiss him all over his sweet face, his chubby cheeks squished most adorably as he giggles back.
Behind him and much slower, a middle-aged man helps an older woman walk along the path to the castle, and Lan Zhan recognises her as Wen Popo, the child's grandmother.
"We got your message!" Wei Ying calls out to them as they approach.
Wen Popo hurries the last few steps to haul him into a tight embrace, and Wei Ying's face gets redder and redder.
"Uncle Four! You made it! Come closer, meet Second Master Lan, Lan WangJi!" And just like that, Lan Zhan is thrust into a social interaction.
He steps forward and bows, and then greetings are exchanged.
"You look just like your brother," Wen Popo tells him, patting his cheek as if he is another A-Yuan.
"No way, I bet Lan Zhan is far more handsome of the two," Wei Ying exclaims adamantly, and then he huffs with embarrassment and busies himself with A-Yuan while the other two seniors exchange knowing looks.
A-Yuan whispers something in Wei Ying's ear, and he laughs out loud with clear delight. He turns to Lan Zhan and says, "A-Yuan wants to know what he should call Pretty Gege."
Now it's Lan Zhan's turn to be embarrassed, though he's never been more glad that his ears are the only thing affected, and they're mostly hidden by his hair.
"What does he call you?" Lan Zhan asks him.
"Xian-Gege," Wei Ying replies, with a mischievous grin.
"Then he may call me Lan-Gege." It feels natural, Lan Zhan discovers.
A-Yuan kicks his feet, wanting to be let down, and as soon as Wei Ying does that, A-Yuan rushes to Lan Zhan and grabs hold of his leg. Lan Zhan is not sure what is expected of him since this is a first-time experience for him. Also, A-Yuan is way too cute, smiling up at him with the brightest smile stretching his cheeks wide.
"You can pick him up," Wei Ying encourages him, so that's what Lan Zhan does.
"Let's go into the kitchen for some snacks," Wei Ying offers, taking Popo's arm to support her. She smiles back gratefully while Uncle Four fills them in on the last few days.
"A-Qing arrived with the Lan army and they defeated the Wen guard," he informs Wei Ying, "and we would have gone with the rest of our folk to Gusu, but for this little one, who refused to leave because he wanted his Xian-Gege."
Lan Zhan can certainly empathise with the kid.
"You know you're welcome to stay here," Wei Ying offers, the corners of his bright silver eyes crinkling.
Without the permission of his master, Lan Zhan wonders if it's alright that he extends this invitation. From what he's seen so far, this estate doesn't lack for food and necessities to house these new arrivals; the castle has many empty rooms to offer, as well as those he has yet to explore. Perhaps Wei Ying has the authority to make such important decisions on behalf of his master. Then he wonders why the Yiling Laozu doesn't open his doors to those in need if he has the power to do so.
