Having the mark on his throat is strange and not because it's there, but because Lan Zhan has been expecting something significant to happen to him as a result. Perhaps it's too much to have hoards of demons heralding the moment like angels celebrating a heavenly event, you know it's the same but like, opposite, or even in his body, he expected a bout of superhuman powers at the least.
Other than a tingling, there's nothing. And it's disappointing, but there's no way in hell or earth that Lan Zhan will ever let Wei Ying know that. Aside from this, Lan Zhan has never been happier because he's married now. Part of two, the other half of a couple. No matter how much he tells himself that it's a normal thing, that plenty of people get married every day, thousands in a year, the secret thrill that gives him shivers at the thought of this does not dissipate. Every time he shares a look with his husband or even just glances at him, waves of joy wash over him with a consistency Lan Zhan had never expected to feel.
The other change is that Horny Times (™) become even more intense.
Wei Ying likes biting the mark, and they both have natural, automatic reactions to each other when Lan Zhan holds onto Wei Ying's horns for leverage during his Operation-let's-get-railed-by-Lan-Zhan events. Following Wei Ying's admission of his agenda, their escapades in the bedroom became livelier. (It's also useful having one of the participants be able to soundproof the room so their child remains undisturbed.) This happens every day, once as a minimum. Twice, if they're tired.
All in all, a positive outcome at the end.
In Lan Zhan's mind, there's a list of events they have to get ready for.
First and foremost is his brother's wedding.
"But we're already married," Wei Ying says stubbornly while they're having this conversation. "Why can't we have our reception first?"
"XiChen said it first. We eloped. So to speak," Lan Zhan replies. "It would be in bad taste if we held our reception before his wedding event. Especially because nobody knows that we are already married."
"Human thing?"
"Human thing," Lan Zhan agrees, smiling at his husband.
He loves when Wei Ying refers to odd things and customs like that as if it's enough of an explanation about them.
"So we have to have dinner with the fam tonight?"
"Mn."
"And after that, it's a pow-wow about wedding plans, right?"
"Mn."
Wei Ying deflates like a hot air balloon. "That means we'll have to stare at Grumpy Face for hours."
"My Uncle...our uncle is a traditionalist man. The fact that he's allowing this ceremony to take place is him sailing through uncharted seas. Finding out that both XiChen and I are gay was him getting on the boat at all."
"Human emotions are so tough to understand. You guys put so many rules around yourselves and then get upset when they get broken." Wei Ying looks up mournfully from his arms where he had buried his face. A smile threatens his melancholy when Lan Zhan slips a piece of chocolate into his mouth.
"Rules add structure to society. Otherwise, we may as well move into a zoo."
"I love it when you get all snooty and prim with me!" Wei Ying cackles. "You're gonna love my world. I can't wait for you to visit."
"When?" Lan Zhan's fingers fly to his tattoo, relishing the tiny tingles that spread across his neck at the touch. He loves the way Wei Ying's eyes become darker when they flicker to the spot where it's hidden. Lan Zhan only releases the glamour, hiding it in the bedroom when they're alone.
