Dear Beautiful Readers,

It seems I can't help myself, so here's another fluffy WangXian story. All you need to know is that WangXian are over eighteen and slightly more mature than in canon when they met for the first time around the age of fifteen/sixteen. Also, this is a Cloud Recesses arc, and a no war au.

A Gift From The Heart

Wei Ying, Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang were just returning from a trip to Caiyi Town, hoping not to get caught with the contraband - all three had stashed jars of Emperor's Smile and roasted peanuts in their qiankun bags and at this moment, trying very hard not to look suspicious about it.

Given the odd hour, their plan had been to walk past the guards in the middle of a shift change; preoccupied disciples would be easier to fool and less likely to search them, Nie Huaisang had suggested... except what they find on their return is unexpectedly different.

Zewu-Jun is standing by the Ivory pillars with Lan Zhan a few feet behind him, and they're both politely bowing to a person dressed in pink robes. The young man blushes as he hands over a small package along with a letter, bows again and then he leaves.

The man walks past the three loiterers, nodding politely their way and Wei Ying gazes thoughtfully after him.

"I wonder what he wanted," he murmurs.

"I bet it's another marriage proposal from one of the smaller sects," Huaisang says, fanning himself as they watch the Twin Jades.

Zewu-Jun offers the gift and the letter towards Lan Zhan but he shakes his head vehemently, glares at the ground and then he stomps off. Zewu-Jun looks after him with a pensive expression on his face, and it changes to a welcoming smile when he suddenly turns around to greet the three students currently visiting the Cloud Recesses.

So much for trying to sneak in, then.

"How do you know that?" Wei Ying hisses at his friend, still thinking about his comment as they make their way towards the young Leader of the Lan Clan. He tries not to move his lips so Zewu-Jun can't tell what they're talking about.

"My brother told me, besides, didn't you see his robes?" Huaisang whispers back, hiding his mouth with his fan. "That's the Shi Clan, newly established."

"Good afternoon, Zewu-Jun!" All three chorus, bowing deeply, and then there's no chance to talk privately until later.

Zewu-Jun's sharp eyes roam over them and they all turn to enter the Cloud Recesses together.

"I trust you all had a nice time today?" He asks.

Wei Ying lets the others answer for him as he tries to sneak longer looks at the things in the Clan leader's hands. It's obvious that the proposal and the gift are intended for Lan Zhan; a smaller Sect or Clan would never approach the leader himself for such an alliance, plus everyone knows that Zewu-Jun has rejected all such offers because he is not available.

Wei Ying supposes that it's a natural step forward for all of them, especially for the heirs of the five great sects. After their education and once they've made a name for themselves night hunting and bringing more disciples eager to join their sects, it's logical that they would be pressured into marrying and providing more heirs themselves. He's lucky in that way, he thinks, because nobody cares about him.

Jiang Fengmian has pretty much told Wei Ying that he's free to bring anyone he likes home, and Wei Ying has never thought the Jiang family would pay for his wedding. But now that the thought arises, he wishes he had saved some of the money from his allowance. Night hunting money always went straight to the Jiang coffers, and Wei Ying has never thought twice about that because he's mostly accompanied Jiang Cheng whenever they're working then.
