A/N
Dear Beautiful Readers,
Just a quick explanation of why this story came out: I've been watching a content creator on TikTok called @Cranes from the start of her posts about MDZS and reading it for the first time. Now she's watching The Untamed and through her meticulous and awesome thoughts, her detailed analysis has inspired me to write this one shot for her as a gift. Please do go on TilTok if it's available in your country and check out her videos (I'm not sure if they are available on YouTube yet(?) but perhaps Instagram or Facebook might be), and let's show her our support.
As for me, I can't wait for each of her updates because they are truly thought provoking and in depth, and my notebook is fast filling up with spin-off ideas for more stories. I should stop rambling and get on with this, however, there's one more thing: @Cranes has often mentioned (yelled at her camera!😅) that WangXian need to talk to each other, so that's basically what this story is.
I hope all of you, and especially the one it's written for, likes it. (@Cranes thank you so, so much for everything you share with us MDZS fans. It is much appreciated.)
Charlie.

Healing
The last notes of their song echo across the courtyard in front of the house where XiChen has chosen to spend his self-inflicted seclusion. The fact that Lan Zhan has heard it at all, here, of all places, means that his husband has followed through on his promise to visit the Sect Leader.
Lan Zhan has been worried about his brother for a while now; it has been a few months since the Guanyin Temple incident, and the aftermath has had a rippling effect over all the sects as the treachery of their previous Cultivation Chief comes to light. More and more irrefutable evidence is being exposed to the world by the day, on the deception that Meng Yao, later given the prestigious title of Lianfang-Zun, had cast upon the whole Cultivation World, including his many fingers in many pies. So many witnesses have come crawling out of the woodwork that those making records of their testimonies are struggling to keep up.
But Lan Zhan also knows that Lan XiChen is suffering from a spiralling blame he is unflinchingly directing at himself; alone with just his thoughts for company isn't proving as beneficial as once thought by the Lan principles. That's why he'd mentioned it to Wei Ying, whose solution was simple and direct: he would visit his brother by marriage and try to cheer him up.
If anyone can, it is his husband.
Lan Zhan pauses, a helpless smile naturally lifting his usually unmoving mouth into action. All thoughts of Wei Ying have this ability to rejuvenate him, and despite it being a few months since they eloped already, Lan Zhan still has trouble believing that they're married, that they belong to each other now. That Wei Ying came back at all, when Lan Zhan had resigned himself to living out the rest of his days in mourning the absence of his soul mate forever. But then, there should hardly be any surprise that Wei Ying would attempt the impossible, the Jiang Clan motto, indirectly fuelling recent events, since he has always lived his life (lives) so recklessly.
Voices, careful and quiet, surpass the confines of the thin walls hiding Lan Zhan's two most beloved people, and it becomes impossible not to hear the shape of the words spoken as he swiftly strides towards the closed door. He doesn't want to break the rule of overhearing speech not intended for his ears.
Here, so far away from the other residences, this house stands alone and brooding. With the mountainside so close to one side and a sheer cliff-face falling away at its rear, this whole area is usually peaceful and silent. Only the occasional bird dares disturb the natural tranquility with chirping calls; that and the whispering wind rustling through the bamboo trees nearby are the only company afforded to his brother of late.
