SPECIAL EPISODE
"PRETTY LITTLE BABY"
◽️◽️...November, 2011...◽️◽️
Rosalind, in an attempt to entertain herself inside the big mansion, is sitting cross-legged on the floor inside Elijah's bedroom as she reads one of Elijah's thick, leather-bound journals.
She runs her fingers over Elijah's fancy handwriting.
"August 1359..." she murmurs, starting to read in a quiet voice "I have noticed a difference in my siblings. Our bond strains beneath the pressure of our life as vampires. Each day removes them further from the humanity we once possessed. My sweet sister, Rebekah, has grown quite indifferent to brutality"
At the end of the sentence, Rosalind starts chuckling.
"You don't say..." she cracks a small laugh, before continuing to read in "However, the true problem remains my brother, Niklaus" she huffs "Of course"
Rosalind had told Elijah previously about her reading his journal. He never had any problem with it. But he has to admit that hearing her reading the words he once wrote, centuries and centuries before she was even born, brings a different satisfaction to him.
Even the words sound more delightful to hear in her voice.
"He continues to hide his loneliness with cruelty" Rosalind continues reading "Still, I cling to the hope that I, as their eldest brother, can lead them down the correct path, a path charged with the power of a family united. For if I fail, our family's legacy will end in darkness"
She stops after this sentence. Her face falling in sadness and angst.
"Oh, Elijah..." she murmurs "Don't do this to yourself"
As long as he can remember, Rosalind always fought to make him understand that he wasn't responsible for Klaus' and Rebekah's decisions. She did understand this feel of subconsciously assuming people's mistakes as your own.
Maybe it's an eldest sibling burden for the life.
Still, she also told Elijah that it wouldn't hurt for him to do things because he wishes so. His happiness matters as much as Klaus', Rebekah's and Kol's.
Maybe, that's what always stood between them, and despite Elijah's deeply love and devotion for Rosalind, he could never truly allow himself to live this with her, afraid of what this would mean for his siblings.
Yeah, well, here you do and pays for it. It's never pretty.
It's clear if you think all the things he lost with her. All the time he gave up to be with her, and all the things he dreamed of living with her, but his fear, this weight over his shoulders, was too much.
Had Elijah known better, wouldn't have thought, even for a millisecond, to ever leave Rosalind behind, to ever consider losing his memory.
What kind of person throws away the best thing of his life? The only thing that matters?
Again, maybe 'Always and forever' robbed him more than he realizes at that point.
"I'm glad to know what you think about your own siblings" Rebekah speaks up, narrowing her blue eyes.
Klaus joins her too, narrowing his eyes accusingly at Elijah.
"Sister, please, you and Niklaus were never ashamed of any display of violence" Elijah says, calmly as ever "Besides, my personal thoughts aren't of your concern"
"You didn't seem to mind when Rosie read it" Rebekah points out.
The twitch up of his lips told everyone what was going through his mind.
