I opened my eyes abruptly as reality caught up with me. My eyes adjusted to the bright light hitting my irises aggressively, my eyelids fluttering as I couldn't keep them steadily open. A slight ringing in my ears made it hard for me to focus on my surroundings. My heart was racing inside my chest, probably from the stress of my last encounter.

I looked around me for the first time since I managed to open my eyes, and realized I was in my bedroom, in my bed. Though I tried to move, I couldn't, as my husband's head was on my chest and his right arm was over my stomach. He was asleep, but his hold on me was tight.

"Michael?" I called softly, gently touching his arm with the tips of my fingers.

This was enough for him to wake up with a start as he swiftly removed his head from my chest to look at me with sheer fear and concern in his eyes. I sat up, ready to reassure him, but he didn't let me the time to do so. He put his arms around me and embraced me with force. He was shaking, like every nerve in his body suddenly came alive with fright. I hugged him back, rubbing his back up and down hoping it would soothe him somehow.

"I was so scared," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

"What happened?" I asked, confused as to how I ended up in our room. "I don't remember falling asleep."

Michael took a deep breath as he was still holding me tightly. He reluctantly pulled away, but he took my hands in his instead. He needed to touch me, to feel I was here with him, I could sense it. He looked utterly scared.

"J—Janet and I, we spent hours rehearsing," he explained, trying to find his senses back. "At some point, I looked behind me and you were asleep so we decided to call it a night. I—I tried to wake you up, but you wouldn't budge," he remembered, sheer fear in his voice as he knitted his eyebrows together. He laid his glistening eyes on me, and I automatically brought a hand to his cheek in a supportive move. "I had a hard time convincing Janet you were okay. Hell, I could barely convince myself," he admitted, looking down at his hands briefly.

"I'm okay, I'm here," I reassured, feeling tears pooling my eyes. It broke my heart to see Michael like this. "I'm here," I repeated again, pulling him back into a warm embrace. "I'm all right."

Michael took another shaky breath, and silence fell upon us. I could feel he was tensed. His whole body was stiff with apprehension and fear. I kept rubbing his back, hoping that he would relax at some point, but he didn't.
