Butterfly (Bucky x Reader)

Argument

You arrived at breakfast and Bucky was waiting with flowers for you. It was sunflowers and red roses, one of your favorite combinations.
"What's this?" you asked with a giggle.
"You deserve nice things," he grinned and leaned in and kissed you softly on the lips. "I also bought you a pregnancy pillow since you seem so uncomfortable at night," he admitted. "It's upstairs for when we go to bed tonight."
"You're so sweet" you cooed to him.
"Not sweet enough," he shook his head. "I should have done it over a month ago," he grimaced.
"Is that where you vanished to this morning?" you asked him.
"I couldn't sleep, I had a lot of planning to do, and now reading," he grinned. "I finished the first Harry Potter book, and already helped myself to the second."
"Good, I hope you enjoy them as much as I have," you told him.
"Good morning love birds" Tony came into the room with Pepper.
"Good morning to you too!" you grinned.
"Did you get my text?" Bucky asked Tony directly.
"Yes, I say we do it" Tony nodded. "A four way baby shower should be interesting" he smirked.
"What's your baby room theme?" you asked Pepper.
"We haven't decided yet. We are thinking of a Frozen theme. I keep making Tony watch that movie, I cry every time" Pepper smiled.

"Gotta love Olaf" you giggled.
"The sisterly bond," Pepper nodded.
"I sob at the beginning and at the end" you agreed.
"Sounds like another movie night for us" Bucky pulled out your chair to sit down.
"It was already going to be a movie night. We are watching the second Harry Potter, one per night and then we will watch Frozen" you said a little sternly. "My teenage years went from Harlequin novels, and period romance novels to Stephen King and Michael Crichton to J K Rowling in a flash, and now it's circled back to romance novels, just a little darker" you grinned.
"That's quite the variety" Nat said, coming over with Seraphina sleeping in her arms and Bruce right behind her.
"I've read quite a variety in my time" you admitted with a smile. The rest of the team filtered in and sat down with the exception of Wanda and Vision. Breakfast was served and everyone started eating. Small conversation went around the table, and Tony mentioned that Bucky suggested a baby shower for all the females on the team and the men all seemed on board. You mentioned you had a friend you wanted to come to participate and it was Jennifer, and Steve heartily agreed. Everyone agreed she would be a perfect fit and you smiled in excitement.
"So where are you going, all dolled up?" Steve asked you after you finished eating.

"Work" you grinned. "I still have a job don't I?" you asked.
"Yes, but... you don't have to jump right back in" Steve looked concerned.
"I'm more than okay to work" you giggled. "I have reports to work on, and my darling fiancee tends to handwrite his since the last time I checked we are still working on his keyboard skills" you teased Bucky.
"Guilty" Bucky chuckled.
"So, back to work I go" you shrugged.
"Baby, it's too soon. Give it a week, it's still paid" Bucky shook his head, trying to argue.
"Sweetie, I have to go back to work. We can't rely on someone else to work on the reports and they need to be submitted to Shield. What has happened to them the last five weeks?" you demanded and everyone got quiet. "That's what I thought" you sighed. You leaned in and gave Bucky a soft kiss on the lips. "I'm going to work, and we can discuss it later," you said firmly.
"I'll come with you," Steve offered.
"Up to you boss" you grinned and headed to go upstairs to the office.

The office was restored back to the way it was supposed to be, but you had more of an ergonomic setup now, and you just had to adjust the chair. You sat down and tried not to shiver at the memory of the gas bombs being set off in the compound the last time you were here. Tony kept his word and put everything back the way it was, with a few renovations being made to the suites.

You started typing out Bucky's month and a half old mission report first after you were logged in, and made sure to go as quickly as you could. Steve came in first, then shortly after it was Bucky who put your vase of flowers on your desk and he sat across from you taking out his own laptop and he started working on his typing skills. Your main focus was making sure that Bucky's report was done in record time, taking short breaks for tea, or lunch. Apparently now that Wanda and Nat are on maternity leave Peter had to take over the phones, much to his dismay. They didn't want to give you back that responsibility. By the end of the day, you had only finished Bucky's report, so you shut your laptop down for the day and put it in your drawer and locked it.
You headed back downstairs hand in hand with Bucky, to hearing arguing between Pepper and Tony having a small argument.
"What's going on?" you asked.
"Tony wants to hire a few nannies for the compound. But with all this business with Hydra I don't think it's a good idea" Pepper said with tears at her waterline.
"Fine, I'll make them," he suggested.
"Make a nanny?" you asked, incredulously.
"Yes, a nanny bot" he said, taking out his phone and already working on the plans.
"How is a nanny bot going to know when to change a diaper?" Pepper demanded.
"I'll make it so it changes the diaper every hour" Tony shrugged.

"And what about the temperature of the milk?" you asked.
"Relax, he's not going to make a nanny bot" Bucky tried to calm you both down.
"Yes I am" Tony said and walked away.

"Oh no..." you groaned.
"Hey Tony! Remember Ultron?!" Pepper started running after him.
"I'll be careful," he said over his shoulder.

"Ooh..." you put your hand on either side of your stomach, feeling the tremors of contractions. You cried out in pain and Bucky whisked you off your feet and brought you into Doctor Cho's office where Wanda and Vision were feeding their babies. He went to the second table and set you down while you cried out in pain. Doctor Cho came running out and looked at you over worriedly. She started taking your pulse and used the ultrasound machine to check you over while you groaned through the pain.
"Have you been under any stress lately?" she finally stops and asks.
"No" you lied.
"Yes," Bucky spoke honestly.
"You're having Braxton Hicks contractions, it should be over soon" she soothed you.
"That's it, you're not going to work. Done. Not until after the baby comes" Bucky said with finality.
"No! I will be working, and you can't stop me. I was just thinking of a robot accidentally decapitating our babies" you told him.
"I can and will stop you" Bucky shook his head.
"Watch it, or else you're sleeping on the couch" you growled at him.
"It's my space too" he growled back and went to help you up.

"Don't touch me" you glared at him and walked out still groaning in pain. "Your nest privileges have been revoked" you said over your shoulder.

"Baby, you can't do that" Bucky followed after you.
"I just did," you said, having a hard time keeping a handle on your wolf.

"I'm worried about you!" he exclaimed.
"I'm well enough to work. Work isn't hard, and it's not exhausting. The thought of a nanny bot suffocating my pup is" you stopped to glare at him. "I've been off work long enough, and besides, Steve hired me. It's up to Steve, but I need the income or else I'm not needed in this compound" you told him, starting to cry.
"Baby, I'm sorry. How about we make it you take a break every two hours for half an hour, and wear a heart monitor to make sure your pulse doesn't get too high and have another episode?" Bucky tried to smooth things over.
"If Steve approves that then I guess I have no choice, but you're still sleeping on the couch" you said, turning on your heel and smack dab right into Steve's chest.
"Why are you two yelling in the hallway?" he asked, one eye brow arched.
"Tony was talking about one of his new inventions, and she started having Braxton Hicks contractions, and I said she needs time off work" Bucky begrudgingly admitted.
"The every two hours I agree with, and heart monitor if necessary" Steve easily gave in.
"Your nest privileges have been revoked Steve, and you're sleeping on the couch too" you glared and stormed past them.

"She knows I sleep in a different room, right?" Steve whispered to Bucky. "I didn't even know I had privileges" he added.
"It's best not to argue, just let it be for now. I'm already in the dog house" Bucky looked downtrodden.
