Some time after the Volturi confrontation, the peace of the Olympic Coven was once again being threatened. This time, by two of their own members. Carlisle Cullen has always preferred to allow the vampires in his family to make their own choices and decisions. Barring immediate threats to the group's state of living, he believed that every individual had the right to decide for themselves what they wanted to do. And for a large amount of time, this approach has been effective. Carlisle's never felt the need to change it in all their years together, at least, that was the case, until Pearl Clearwater was added to the mix.
Pearl was a breath of fresh air for the patriarch. She was young, and inexperienced, the world of the supernatural was still very new to her. As such, she required some gentle guidance in order to fully settle down into the new realm she found herself in. Giving said guidance, is one of the biggest honours Carlisle has ever had. But as she became more intertwined with his family, it started to become much more clear, about what kind of role both he and his mate would play in Pearl's life.
The role of a father, and to his mate, the role of a mother. Their children that came before Pearl, aside from Edward, were all already adults when they joined his family. And Edward was born into a time period where, he was already treated as such. Although that didn't make them any less his children, the patriarch couldn't deny that they didn't need the same kind of guidance that Pearl inherently did. The same guidance, that Bree later needed as well.
With the addition of the female duo, both Carlisle and Esme felt able to fully step into the role of real parents. Having felt unable to before, it was a real treat for them. And as such, they may have let more things slide, than they perhaps should have.
Emmet has always been the happiest in their family, acting far more childlike and carefree, compared to the others. It was no surprise to Carlisle when he bonded so fiercely with Pearl. The two of them were very similar, both in terms of personality and with their instincts. And whilst it was amazing to see their relationship as siblings flourish, it would have been irresponsible of the patriarch to ignore the fact that, at times, both of them have pushed things way too far during their interactions.
Emmet's always liked to push the boundaries of their family, that didn't change when Pearl came into the picture. What did, was the fact that, with Pearl, when Emmet pushed, Pearl would push back just as hard. But instead of a firm correction from her that relayed her boundaries in a clear way, Pearl would immediately retaliate, and do exactly what Emmet would do.
The pair would feed off of each other, causing the initial spat, to evolve into a much more concerning affair.
Carlisle's well aware of how much they love each other, and he knows that pranking each other is a way to showcase that love. But now that their family is no longer under siege by the Volturi, he feels that it's time to address the situation regarding Pearl and Emmet's escalating pranks.
On a family hunting trip, Carlisle took the opportunity to ask both Emmet and Pearl to accompany him going North. Leaving Esme with Rosalie, Bree, Alice and Jasper, since Edward, Bella and Renesmee were going to go hunting together later in the week.
As their coven leader departed with their two strongest members, Jasper turned to his mate when he felt her enthusiasm and hope as they left. "What's going on?" He asked his little pixie in his southern accent.
Alice grinned up at him, "Something good babe." She said, finishing her sentence by pecking her Texan on the lips and running off in a different direction.
Jasper mentally shrugged and followed after Alice with a pep in his step. Knowing that she wasn't going to elaborate further, he pushed aside his curiosity and focused solely on his wonderful eternal partner that he was blessed with.
