Ch. 26 You Know, Awkward Moments Suck

I winced from the impact of the barrel as I tried to get up. I felt beaten and tired. Lucario held one last barrel above me. "Perhaps..." He slowed, and for a second I thought I saw a hesitation. He quickly shook it off. "...this time I won't have to hit you again."

I knew I had no hope.

"NO!!" I heard a voice scream loudly. I turned my head enough to see Harper leaping through the air towards Lucario. As she did, I saw a bright flash of light around her. I covered my eyes as the light began to fade.

I saw, in the place of Harper, a strange creature, slight taller and looking much more powerful. The pokedex began beeping. I opened at and lifted it up.

PRINPLUP. THE PENGUIN POKEMON. BECAUSE EACH BELIEVES IT IS THE GREATEST, THEY CAN NEVER FORM GROUPS.

"She...she evolved." I gasped painfully. The barrel still hurt.

She jumped back and rammed Lucario head on. "Aqua Jet!" She launched him through the sky. SHe turned to me and held out her hand.

I gladly took it, adding, "Harper, that was amazing."

She blushed. "Thanks."

"Thanks for what?" Lucario shouted from a nearby roof. He held his hands apart, and energy began to flow through them, forming a small ball. He concentrated it and flung down at high speed. "AURA SPHERE!" There wasn't time to get out of the blast.

Suddenly, a small grey blur ran in front of the attack and the sphere stopped. I blinked and refocused to discover it was a Pokemon. I held out the pokedex again.

MACHOP. THE KARATE POKEMON. THOUGH SMALL IN NATURE, IT IS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO LIFT AND THROW SEVERAL GEODUDE AT ONCE.

I looked up slowly, as the Machop struggled with the attack, holding it in place. "...John?"

He turned his head towards me, and gave me a small grin before slamming the sphere in the ground. He pulled his leg back. "Low Kick!" He brought it forward to hit the sphere back to Lucario, destroying the roof. Lucario frantically leaped another part of the roof, struggling to keep his balance without focus. He suddenly started to twitch. He looked down, and we saw a strange mouse-like creature sweeping at his leg.

"You know, you should really try to keep this less dusty." It squeaked.

Lucario stumbled and fell into the building.

The creature hopped off the roof and ran over to us.

"Lily? Is that you?" I asked. She smiled.

"'Sup?"
