Ch. 38 Nightmare in Flesh Relived

Joey lifted the car as Taylor assisted the passengers in the cars pinned beneath. The six of us had been at work for almost an hour, and already had been pretty busy.

I stood atop a roof, scanning for people who needed help. I looked down to see the people we had already assisted. Their bodies were bent, they were in immense pain, and strange limbs sprouted from many. It was sickening.

I hopped down softly and walked over to Taylor. "How goes the rescuing?" He asked.

"Alright, my presence seems to calm a lot of them down." She sighed, leaning against a toppled car.

"Something's bothering me."

"What?"

"The lights. The Christmas lights. I know people have them. It's almost getting dark, and these lights that are clearly on timers aren't coming on."

"So you're saying-"

"Something would have had to short out every light."

"Or someone." The two of us looked down the street. Out in the distance, you could just barely make out working Christmas lights.

"Nelly, with me." I called out. She glided over and we began to walk down the street. I turned around to look at Taylor.

"Don't get killed." She said, looking me straight in the eyes.

"I wouldn't dream of it." I smiled and turned around. I hope Mom is having better luck than I am.

-Meanwhile-

Doc still hadn't gotten up for a while, and Todd's mom was getting worried. She decided if she was gonna do something, she had to try to finish the cure herself.

"Please let those two years of computer programming and chemistry come in handy." She muttered to herself as she sat down at the computer.

After working for almost a half an hour, she believed she was getting close to the cure. "Come on, just a little more..."

A shuffling behind her made her stop. She turned around to see an empty stretcher. "Oh, come on." She swallowed and stood, walked around to the other side of the stretcher. Nothing. She looked around. She then noticed a bit of a strange light on a wall. She approached it and set her hand on it. Ice.

A strange creature seemed to come out of the wall. She fell backwards as she looked at it. It had a kimono-like torso, and it's hands were shaped as though it were wearing baggy sleeves. It was mostly white, but its white ended at its head, where the white seemed more of a helmet. What could be seen underneath the white was purple, and it had bits of ice on top of its head, almost like bows.

It slowly approached her. She backed up until she reached a wall. It emitted a harsh shriek. Todd's mom rushed to another end of the room. It turned and breathed out, its ice cold breath solidifying and forming deadly projectiles. She ducked as the shards struck a wall behind her.

She had to get to the computer. She slid a chair in front of it, not knowing much else to do. It seemed puzzled, and she took the chance to run to the computer. She finished entering some final sequences, and the formula began to be created by a souped up coffee maker. She looked at the flow rate, and estimated about three to three and a half minutes until it finished.

If this thing hit her, she was finished. Three minutes had officially become forever.

She began to duck behind random objects as shards pelted what she hid behind. The creature clearly wasn't happy. She quietly rolled over to a desk, accidentally knocking off a small note. It read,

In case of emergency-

Trustable phone numbers on back

Emergency defense systems switch behind keyboard

"I must be the luckiest person in the world." She muttered to herself. She worked her way to the keyboard, and quickly swept a hand up to flip the switch. A slight beeping was heard, then suddenly a punching bag flew out from a wall and smacked the creature across the room.

"Ooh. Sorry." She gulped.

She found the formula finished. She quickly took it and administered it to the creature. It began to revert to normal form, until Doc finally was back to herself.

"Ugh, why do I have such a headache?"

"Uh, better not to know."

-Meanwhile-

Todd and Nelly returned, beat from fighting a very energetic and very powerful Raichu-morph. Todd turned to Taylor. "Have you heard anything yet?"

"No, but we think most of the people who were hurt are found." A beeping sounded from Todd's pocket. He whipped out his cell phone.

"Yeah? Mom, oh great. Yeah, I'm glad you're okay. Wow. Alright. Great, we'll be back in a few minutes." He turned off the phone and nodded. "They're done. We need to get back."
