Ch. 14 Getting Used to Your Suckish Life
I ran off, covering up my self with a hoodie. I entered Doc’s house and ran to her.
”Doc! We’ve…uh, we got a problem.” Then I realized she was watching the news.
”I noticed. And so did everyone else in the city!” She grunted, turning to me. ”Todd, what have you done? You realize what is going to happen to you all now?”
”Um, free chicken at T. G. I. Fridays?”
”TODD! People don’t understand what you are! They…they…” She stopped.
”Doc? Yo, don’t leave me hanging.” I asked, trying to keep steady tone in my voice.
”You…you have no idea what people might do to you.” she finished. She sat there for a while. I decided I should leave. I ran to my house, and opened the door slowly. Would Mom already know?
”Uh, Mom? I’m home. I ran into the kitchen where she stood. She held a picture of me when I was like 8 years old. Yup. She knew.
”Todd, it was you all that time. You never told me…”
”Mom, I was going to tell you when it was safe. I couldn’t risk anyone finding out-”
”Well now everyone knows, Todd. I just wish you would trust me.”
I sighed. ”I can’t stay, Mom. People know who I am, and they’ll be after me all the time.”
”Then what are you supposed to do?”
I sighed. ”I gotta pack. I can stay at Doc’s. She…she knew about it.”
She shrugged. ”I suppose. Just…just be safe. It will be hard without you around, and…”
I sighed. Man, I need to switch things up a little. ”I know. I will be okay Mom.”
I finished packing and prepared to leave. For longer than I ever imagined I would at this age.
”Mom. I will be coming back.” I grinned, giving her a thumb’s up. She smiled.
”Goodbye Todd.”
