Ch. 34 Race to Extinction (Hopefully Not)

You never want to have your best friend telling you (Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) the world's gonna end.

Okay, number one he's not my best friend, and number two I'm kinda used to the world being ready to end. It still doesn't make it little news when you hear it.

I listened as Adrian explained detecting something in Lucario's mind. "I found out they came for these special stones. I don't know much about them, but according to what I found out, they awaken Pokemon. Powerful Pokemon."

"Well, we should probably do some cat burglary, then." I grin.

"No." He stops me, holding his head. "No, they're bringing them somewhere. Actually, all three to different places."

"Really?" Red asks, "Where?"

"I...I don't know." He sighs.

Doc jumps in. "I can handle that. Chances are these stone's put out a lot of energy. I'll get a scan started." She headed over to her computer.

Adrian groaned as he tried to stand up. I rushed over to him. "Easy, bro. There you go." He growled as he lied back down. "Come on, man. You were amazing. You took him on head to head alone. None of us could have done any better than you."

He didn't say anything.

"I wouldn't have asked for anyone else to be fighting for me back there. Just trust that." I smile.

Doc walks in. "I've got them. Sure enough, they showed up. The locations are Western Peru, Northern Ireland, and South Florida. You'll need to go and do what you can." She turned to Red. "Since our numbers recently took a hit, I'm gonna ask you to help us out on this."

He smiled at her, and flashed a thumbs up. "Sure. I got your backs."

She continued. "Harper, you can go to Peru. You'll need to stop all operations there. Nelly, you'll do the same in Northern Ireland. I have a friend there. He'll be able to help you out."

She turns to me. "Todd, their resources were shown to be heaviest in Florida. I'm going to send you with Red."

I grin and me and Red fist pumped. She interrupts. "However, for cover reasons, Todd, you will fly directly from the airport outside of town. Red, I'll take you to a different airport where you will fly from there."

"Aw, come on!"

---

Which is how I ended up alone in seat C of Row 18 on a plane to Florida. Pretty boring, especially since I was told not to talk to anyone to blend in. Blah blah, the flight was getting really boring.

Unfortunately, my dumb luck was about to make things way worse than boredom.

I heard shuffling, and looked up to the front of the plane to hear someone stand up. A man, well built, in a suit, and he stood in the aisle way and faced the rest of the passengers.

"I need your attention, please. I am FBI special agent Gerald Kaine. I am here on official business, and there is someone here who I think you might recognize, who I need to take in." He looked further down. "Isn't that right, Todd?"

I cringed. This was about the worst thing that could happen to me. I took a deep breath, and composed myself. Maybe, if I kept cool and acted casual, I could make it until landing.

Or I could handle it my way.

"All right, you got me." I called out as I stood up. There were a few gasps, and hearing them made me cringe, but I continued. "I give. How did you know I was here?"

"I had my suspicions." He replied, and reached to his belt and pulled out a gun, and pointed it at me. "I need you to turn around slowly, and get down on the ground." He took a step towards me.

"You got it, chief." I grinned as I turned around.

"One question, though." I asked over my shoulder as I stopped. I took a deep breath and spoke. "Does this hoodie make me look fat?"

I spun, tossing the hoodie at his face. It caught him off guard, and he stepped back. Once he tore it off, he took aim at me and fired. Three shots. My instincts locked down. I sliced the first bullet with a downward slice, and the second I split with an uppercut slash. I used my momentum to spin and began to spin rapidly, slicing the bullet like sushi when it hit. I landed swiftly on my feet, the remains of the bullets clinking on the ground around me.

We stared at each other. We began circling in the middle area of the plane. I backed up to one of the walls. I felt what I was looking for behind me.

"Well? Anything else you want to say?" He asked coolly.

I felt the handle in my hand, then replied, "Yeah. You might wanna close the door behind me when I go out." I tore the handle to the side, opening the door, and let myself go. I felt my body get sucked directly out into the air. I spun around and opened my eyes. Yes, I was free falling. Yes, I was panicking.

Okay, Todd, you can handle this. This is a crazy situation that you have no idea what to do in. What do you do in these situations?

"Call Doc." I smile to myself. I activate the comm system. "Please pick up, please pick up."

"Todd?"

"Doc! Oh, thank heavens, listen, I need your help big time!"

"What? What's wrong, did something happen on the plane?"

"Uh, yeah, you could say that. You could also say I'm plummeting to my doom several hundred feet in the air. Now that that's settled, HELP ME!!!"

"Why on Earth, in any circumstance, would you need to jump out of the plane?"

"Can we not discuss my course of action one and a half minutes ago?"

"Alright, I have an idea. Spin."

"What?"

"Spin. Point yourself towards the ground and start spinning with your hands above your head."

"I really hate this plan, and I don't even know how this helps remotely!"

"You have super endurance and pain resistance. I need you to hit the ground like a drill. It should cause the continuous motion to slow, but not stop at the force of which would flatten you as hitting the ground normally. Then, you need to aim yourself to travel underground, so the continuous digging will slow you down and turn your kinetic energy into thermal energy."

"Uh, huh?"

"Your digging will slow you down safely. It should work, if it's the only option."

"Why, what?"

"Well, your impact could set off a 3.5 earthquake."

"Awesome. Cause there's always the potential danger."

"Good luck, Todd. You'll need it."
