Ch. 5 A Tale of Two Worlds (And 4 Kids Who Don’t Belong in Either of Them)
I listened closely as Doc began the story. She cleared her throat and sighed.
”I have always assumed there were other worlds. I tried to prove it, but scientists didn’t believe it. I decided to go into teaching, since kids can’t make official restraining orders.”
”Wait, what?” I asked.
She sighed. ”Nothing. Anyway, I still tried to make proof down here. One day, I found something. There were a few places on an energy map releasing small amounts of unidentified energies. I investigated until I found a way to follow the reverse flow of energy. There was another world. It was fantastic and full of life, but what amazed me was that the organisms were similar in DNA make up to humans. Look at this.”
”What is it?” I replied.
”It’s your DNA make up. This is from before the change stared, and this is the current DNA setup. Notice anything?”
”Whoa.” I gasped. ”They’re exactly the same. Why? Shouldn’t they be changing?”
”That’s the thing. They won’t. You see, each person in our world is DNA connected to a species from the other world. When the person’s cells encounter a certain chemical solution, they react and copy the cellular data of the creature that person connects to. Like you.”
”So, what’s gonna happen?” I really was hardly understanding her.
”Well. let’s get those other children before we discuss that. I found your mental images of them, and I can match them with computer images. Just kind of make yourself at home.”

Later, the other kids had arrived and Doc was explaining what she had told me. I just spent my time in the kitchen, grabbing some snacks. I walked to the room where she was talking to the others. The sight made me spew out a few crackers.
The older teenager was most surprising. His skin was almost entirely a dark purple. His eyes were glossy and a solid pale blue for the whole eye. He also seemed to be developing claws on his fingers. The older girl had skin with a blue tint, and a had small wing-like blade on either arm. She also had developed a beak and flippers for her feet. The little girl had completely white skin. She also had wing-like blades, but were only below her arms. She had yellow circles on her cheeks and was still crying.
I saw everyone staring at me strangely, especially Doc, who kind of had gotten cracker spewed all over the back of her. I was unsure what they thought was up. ”What? I asked. ”It wasn’t like she was talking to me.”
”Good grief.” The older girl sighed.
