Dustin forced everyone to stop for a moment so he could scan through Brenner's journal.
"Any clue in there about how long it takes for a wormhole to collapse in?" Steve impatiently asked, "Ten minutes, maybe twenty?"
"I thought it'd be instantaneous," Dustin grumbled, "Clearly not."
Jenna scanned her brain as they continued to bicker, "Why do you sound disappointed?"
"I'm not disappointed."
"Well, you sound disappointed."
"I'm confused, Steve. As far as I can see it, there are two distinct possibilities here. Either this is the afterlife, and we're all spirits—which seems unlikely. Or Nancy didn't completely destroy the exotic matter."
"She didn't," Jenna opened her eyes and wiped some blood from her nose, "If she did, the wormhole would've collapsed in on itself. She shot it, right? That's not powerful enough to destroy it; only piss it off. So, let's get our asses moving and go rescue Jon and Nance."
"Guys!" Dustin scrambled to pick up his stuff while Steve and Jenna immediately got back into action, "Wait up!"
"How many fucking stairs are in this place?" Steve huffed as they neared closer and closer to the roof, trying to keep up with Jenna's pace.
"Guys, it might not be safe up there," Dustin warned.
"And that's not an issue for me, Dusty," Jenna continued on, "Come here," She opened a door, "Let's move to the other staircase," She led them through a floor to the other side.
"Jenna, I'm serious," Dustin pestered, "Just because it's not destroyed doesn't mean this place can't be a physics-defying death trap!"
"And I'm a physics-defying woman. I'm not concerned. I am concerned for Jon and Nance though-" She cut herself off once she saw looked above her. Right in the center of the floor they were on was a hole through the building, showing off the exotic matter that was glowing bright red and freaking out, "Holy shit."
"Mother of god," Dustin gaped.
"Please tell me they're not up there," Steve glanced at Jenna.
"Know our luck and theirs, they probably are," Jenna gulped, "You guys should stay here. I'm gonna go up."
"No, I'm going with you," Steve grabbed her hand, "I'm not leaving your side again."
"Let's head up then," Jenna led him to the other stairwell.
"Guys!" Dustin screamed, "Please stop! It's clearly not safe!"
WHY DO THEY NEVER LISTEN TO ME!?
~
Lucas, Alice, and Robin all burst through the hospital doors.
"Hey, Doris," Lucas greeted briefly before flying on by her desk, "Gonna sign in later."
"And we're just here for emotional support!" Robin yelled for her and Alice.
"Miss Green! Miss Green!" Doris called after her, but was ignored, "Oh, you know what," She dialed security.
Right as the three of them were about to go up to Max's in the elevator, a nurse stopped Alice, "We need to talk."
"Not right now, Anna," Alice told her through gritted teeth.
"Yes, now," Anna dragged her down the hall with Robin following after them.
"Guys!" Lucas shouted as the elevator doors closed.
"Meet you up there, Lukey!" Alice blew him a kiss before getting dragged into an empty room, "What is going on, Anna?"
"Why is she here?" Anna gestured to Robin.
"Oh, hi!" Robin waved, "I'm Robin. I'm here for-"
"She's my girlfriend, Anna," Alice sighed, "Don't worry, Rob, she's safe. So what am I needed for?"
"They're looking for you," Anna grabbed her shoulders.
"Why would they be looking for me? And who the hell are they?"
"They've been waiting for you to come back in since you were last here with Lucas and you stole those Benzos. I don't know why the hell you needed them, but someone found out and now the military is after you."
"Why are you telling me this? I thought-"
"Look, I know we've been weird since the whole hook up at the Halloween party, but I do like you, Alice. You're a good person and... and there aren't many good people left here in Hawkins. You're always here to see Max and always say hi to me even though it's awkward. All of my friends fled so I don't really have any left. You're—unfortunately and sadly—the closest sliver I have left of one."
