14. Long Way Back From Hell

Monique Deveraux stood infront of a grave, watching them bury her aunt Sophie, when suddenly Lily appeared behind one of the witches who were standing with Monique, she used her bare hands to snap his neck, Lily glared at Monique, her eyes glowing yellow, however before Monique or any of the witches could do anything, Elijah appeared on the other side of Monique and elbowed two of the witches, causing them to fall to the ground with their necks snapped.

"Where are they?" a furious Lily asked Sophie, "Where are Klaus and Rebekah?!".

"You two are interrupting my aunt Sophie's consecration" Monique said.

"How did this happen?" a shocked Elijah asked, neither him or Lily knowing that Sophie was dead.

"Aunt Sophie was a casualty of war" Monique stated.

"You're about to be a casualty of the same war if you don't start speaking, Monique" Lily threatened.

"That won't be necessary" Monique assured, "I have a message for you Elijah, from Celeste", Monique put her hand forward and suddenly Elijah started feeling a burning sensation on his body, he opened the the buttons on his collar and saw a name appearing on his chest, more on his arm, "To find what you're looking for, follow the path she left behind".

"Anything?" Elijah asked Marcel and Stefan the moment him and Lily walked into the compound.

"They're putting eyes and ears out everywhere" Marcel informed, "Day walkers are working every contact we got, cops, dock workers, guys in the treme, word is out, anyone trying to earn favor with me gets a lifetime of it if they find them".

"Good, I need a pen and paper" Elijah said, walking into the study room.

Stefan looked at Lily in question, Lily just shrugged her shoulders in response, "The witches are up to their usual tricks" she said, before following Elijah and Marcel.

"Am I taking orders from you now?" Marcel asked Elijah, "Or are we in this together?".

"Pen and paper Marcel, now" Elijah demanded, taking his coat off, ignoring Marcel's question.

"Look, I want her back just as much as you do, you know" Marcel said, "Both of them".

"I doubt that" Lily mumbled, before walking over to Elijah with a pen and paper she found on the desk, "What do you want with a pen and paper?".

Elijah took off his tie and shirt, "I need you to make a list of these names, please".

Lily nodded her head in understanding, before starting to write she took a moment to look at all the names on Elijah's body, her eyes landed on his wrist where it said, Sabine Laurent, "Sabine" Lily whispered, before looking at Elijah, "Any idea what these names are?".

"I believe they represent the names of the women that Celeste inhabited for the past two centuries" Elijah informed.

"It's called a devinette" Marcel informed, "It's old school, kind of a riddle, witches use them to teach their kids, solve it and it disappears".
