Half- filled cups of coffee;
Drinks long forgotten
For the conversation
Turned riveting
And the words were no longer empty.
For promises were made,
The eternal kind,
And he pledged his love
As she pledged her own.Half-filled glasses of champagne;
Drinks long forgotten
For night- long dancing
Seemed inviting
And the exchanging of rings was the past.
For laughter over-ruled,
The infectious kind,
And he took her hand
As she took his.Half-filled bottles of liquor,
Drinks long forgotten
For arguments
Became inevitable
And contentment was long-gone.
For insults were thrown,
The unforgivable kind,
And he obliterated her heart
As she broke his.
