Always there;
One step ahead or trailing behind.
Attached at the hip like siamese twins
But no innovative surgery could separate us.
Sometimes I wish that I was you
And somedays you drag me back.
You make me jump
And you creep up so steadily and silently.
At night I walk alone, even with you under gloomy streetlights, I am lonely.
The sun heats you up but you remain your darkest self.
A concrete horizon is all you see and so you will never see the stars.
You are just a filled in silhouette
And yet you are so much more;
You are my invisible companion.
Sometimes I feel just as transparent as you and I sink into your warm embrace when I cannot fathom other people's questioning eyes.
You are hidden in cement.
Others tread on you and pay no respect.
I am sorry that you are my shadow,
My helpless shadow.
