The restaurant was dimly lit in the sophisticated and tasteful way the couple had grown to appreciate. It felt strange to finally have a date night after so many thirteen hour days on set for Liz, but it was nice for the two of them to catch a break.
Work had been manic recently, for both of them. They hadn't seen much of each other with such long hour days and clashing shifts, and any free time Liz had, she'd been sharing out with her friends as well as her husband. It was exhausting, but it was the grind of the industry.
"...so anyway, I told my boss I would have the score finished by tomorrow morning so he won't be happy. But I guess when... Liz? You listening?" Michael trailed off, noticing his wife had been glancing down at her lap for a few seconds, frowning slightly.
"Sorry. My phones ringing. It's Carly." Liz rolled her eyes in frustration.
"Manager Carly?" Michael asked her, taking a sip of his drink.
"Mhm." Liz nodded, picking her phone up from her thigh and turning it to the side to switch it off.
"Answer it, babe. It might be imporatnt." Michael told her softly.
"But... it's out of hours." Liz pouted and Michael laughed.
"It's probably just a quick one. Go on, answer her." He said, knowing it must be an important message considering the time of night it was.
Ordinarily, Liz wouldn't have answered the call. She and her team had a strict contact hours policy in place, curtesy of Liz's unmovable boundaries which in truth benefited everyone. If it was anything important, Liz would have known about it before 5 P.M, not at almost 10 P.M.
For anything that couldn't wait, her manager, Carly would send her a quick text message or leave a voicemail. If there was a job or audition that suddenly came up, her agency would call straight away and simultaneously send an email. So something about this whole ordeal seemed relatively urgent.
"Hey Carly." Liz said, trying to sound as soft as she could despite the frustration at being interrupted.
"Hi Liz. Is now a good time? We need to talk." Carly told her quickly.
"Well I'm on a date right now." Liz said with a tight smile that Carly could hear through the phone call.
"I'm sorry to interrupt. It is important, though." Her manager said, trying to get the message across.
Liz wasn't always as co-operative as Carly's other clients. And by that, Liz simply wasn't a push over. She stuck to her morals and her work ethic and refused to be pushed into jobs. It didn't make her hard to work with, and Carly admired her, in fact, although it did mean she had to go at situations from a slightly different angle with Liz.
"Okay. Go on." Liz gave in reluctantly, mouthing a 'sorry' to Michael across the table who offered a sympathetic smile.
"So there's been an issue, uh involving you and one of your cast mates. Maddison Brown. She's, umm, now, don't shoot the messenger here, but-" Carly laughed uncomfortably.
"Yes?" Liz asked impatiently, blinking quickly until Carly continued.
"Maddison knows Michael, your husband, correct?" Carly asked nervously.
"My husband?" Liz raised her eyebrows and Michael was suddenly far more interested in whatever conversation his wife was having on the phone.
"So, she does know Michael?" Carly asked, waiting for Liz to confirm.
"Yes." Liz rolled her eyes, desperate for the woman to get to the point as she took a mouthful to her lips.
"Okay. So, given that, we know that, she umm-"
