New Bicycle

Virginie's Point Of View

September 17th

I wake up past noon and I'm still tired. I stayed up way past my usual bedtime, but I just couldn't stop chatting with Harold. I got a date out of it! On my... fourth day here! I feel overly happy! I like him, I feel at ease when I talk to him. I can say anything or joke without thinking about it first. I feel more spontaneous and I like it.

I get up and get cleaned before heading to the campus cafeteria. I have two choices when it comes to eating. First, I could go to the cafeteria of the campus or I could cook my own food in the dorm's kitchen. But for this week, I'll start easy with the cafeteria's food.

When I get back, I decide to go buy my family some presents to the College's shop. I take them shirts and hoodies and get the enrolment week special.  It will probably be a part of their Christmas present. I look through the clothes and find a big sweater that looks really comfy. I immediately think of Harold's shirt he wore Tuesday. He looked really nice.

I get back to my dorm hours later and skype with my mom. She's really excited I've made new friends and I can't help but feel I little bad for Heidi. I haven't talked to her since Monday. So after I hang up with my mom, I leave her a message that she has to call me when she gets home from school. Which she does.

It's past 9 o'clock, but I need to talk to her. I want to tell her everything that has happened since Monday. Yet again, we talk for hours and I find myself asleep at late hours.

September 18th

A knock on the door wakes me up. OMG! What time is it!? I look tiredly at my alarm. It's 11:15 AM. I get up and answer the door.

"Good morning Miss! Are you Miss Gynie Dulude?" The clerk asks me.

I nod yawning.

"I was asked to deliver this directly to you and insist that you take it and read the card."

He then rolls the bicycle to me.

"Have a nice day, Miss."

The clerk leaves.

You must be kidding me! Harold really bought me a new bicycle. And it looks really nice too, not like the used one I bought for the purposes of a few rides. It looks expansive too!  What will I do with it? I look at the seat. The card is beautifully wrapped on it with a big bright red ribbon.

I take the card and read it.

"Gynie,

Please accept this gift! If you're not going to ride it, at least use it to think of me.

I had a wonderful time picking the right one for you.

Look through the envelope, I thought you might like to go!

I look forward seeing you again, I will write you the update.

Until then, have a good first week of College and enjoy the show!

H"

What!? Another gift? This man is impossible...

I do as he asks and look in the envelope. I take out a pass with the One Direction picture on it. This can't be! I start shaking with excitement.

"You're cordially invited to attend the Apple Music Festival in London on September 22nd for the show of One Direction with the special participation of Little Mix at the Roundhouse of London."

I rush to my computer.

Harold,

All your gifts are exquisite, but I can't accept them!

You're lucky the clerk woke me up and I was still half asleep, because I would have made him "return to sender". Even if he was asked to insist.

I wait for a response.

I wait for 15 minutes, no responses. I get up, get dressed and leave the dorm for the cafeteria.

When I come back an hour later, I have a new mail.

You are quite the stubborn one, aren't you?

Like you said, I'm lucky he got to you the way he did, because it would have been hell for him to deal with your stubbornness.

I didn't know you love One Direction, but the production company I work for gave me a ticket and I didn't need it. I thought you would have liked it.

Enjoy what is given to you and take the bike to explore the city the way you want to experience it.

But don't run into anyone! OK?

I'm glad you find them exquisite, it makes me very happy.

I have to work for the next couple of days, I'll keep you posted.
