I RAN AS FAST as I could up the hill at top speed to get up to the ridge, that I swore that I was gliding because it felt like I wasn't even touching the ground. I hadn't even broken a sweat when I got to the top. Having some werewolf abilities came in handy sometimes.
I took a drink of my water and looked out over the ridge. It was beautiful up here. The sun was slowly rising from the earth and it was breath taking. So serene, that I wished that I had brought my camera with me.
I had woke up bright and early this morning to go jogging, to help clear my mind that I hadn't even thought about anything else or I would have brought my camera too. Everything was happening and I couldn't stop it.
Looking back on all that happened yesterday, I didn't like the way I acted. I had been mean and really childish, I could admit that now, but that didn't excuse Brian and his behavior either. What he did was wrong and it had been selfish too. Maybe we were both being selfish. Maybe if I had been raised here, I would understand the whole mate thing. I just wished that he understood where I was coming from.
I sighed heavily and took a deep breath of the beautiful breeze blowing all around me. It was refreshing and cold and allowed me some bit of clarity. And in that clarity only one thing came to mind: Brian.
This whole thing was a messed up situation. What was I going to do? I didn't want to hurt him anymore than I already had. Was I being selfish? Not wanting to be his mate because I didn't want to spend my entire life with someone I didn't even know. I was starting to feel like those young girls who are married off to a man they hardly knew, all for the sake of tradition.
Traditions suck, I thought, kicking the little rock on the ground and watching it roll over the ledge and fall. I could hear it bouncing off the other rocks as it fell the rest of the way down. I looked at the morning sky one last time before turning to leave. I climbed down and headed back on the trail towards home.
Halfway down the trail, I heard a noise and stopped dead in my tracks. It sounded like grumbling and heavy footfalls but as soon as i stopped walking, it had stopped too. I listened to see if I could catch anything else, but all I heard was silence.
