WE DROVE OVER the bridge and turned left at the light and reached Buzz's Drive-In without any trouble.
He parked the car and we got out. The sun was staring to set. Different shades of orange and red rose from the ends of earth to greet what was left of the sky; it looked like a Popsicle swirl.
A line had formed in front of the order window so we got in it to wait.
"Hope it's worth the wait," he said near my ear--he was standing behind me. So tall and towering, since i was barely reaching five feet and two inches.
"It is," I assured, looking up at him over my shoulder.
There was four people in front of us, anxious and reeling to get to the counter and order. They all had on identical work badges around their necks hanging from a blue lanyard. Heads tilted slightly up to look at the menu board above them.
"What's good to eat?" He wondered.
"Depends on what you're hungry for," I replied. "American food; you can't go wrong with any of the choices."
When our order was ready they called his name. He went up and came back with our food in both hands. I could smell the aroma of the food already. My chili fries and hamburger. My mouth was practically salivating.
I rummaged through my brown pepper bag and grabbed a few fries and ate them; hot from the fryer. It burned my mouth but it was a good burn.
"How do you like it?" I wondered, reaching for my fountain drink.
"I don't know about that," he said pointing the billboard that read Best Burger In The Valley. "I've had better."
I smirked,"Well it's the best we have here."
"It's good though," he humored me, taking another bite of his bacon burger.
"Here have a fry," I said flicking it at him.
He caught it and tossed it in his mouth.
"Tell me about school," he said randomly.
