I WASN'T dead.
I woke up and found myself staring at a white ceiling. Heard the soft beep of the heart monitor in my ears. The hiss of the air pump working steadily nearby. I had tubes inside my nose and mouth, to help me breath.
I wiggled my fingers.
Yup, I was still alive...barely, I thought.I felt so weak. Felt a strong pain every time I took a breath, which meant whatever medicine I was on, was wearing off. The pain would soon set in and I would be wishing I was dead.
I snuck a peak at my chest and found bandages that were in a shade of light pink and a darker crimson color. I wondered how much blood I had lost because I could see that I was being given a blood transfusion. I tried to move my right hand to touch my wound but found it bandages up too. Which helped me remember what had happened to me.
There was a knock on the door before it opened. It was Doc (who seemed to always dressed in a white lap coat) and after him, was Malcolm who seemed more tired then usual.
"Good to see you're awake," Doc praised coming over and checking my vitals and making mental notes here and there as he said "good" or "very good" to himself.
"Mia," Malcolm looked like total shit. It was a welcomed sight. His beard grown out and his hair was due for a cut. I wondered how long I had been out. "How are you feeling?" He inquired.
"Like I'd been hit by a bus." I managed to speak but my throat was dried. I coughed and tried to swallow Yes some saliva to help with the dryness but it didn't help. "Is there water?"
Malcolm went over to the table, poured me some into a plastic cup, and brought it back to me. I took it from him and drank it down in one gulp. Water had never tasted so good, then it did in that very moment.
"How's your pain level?" Doc then asked. "Scale of 1 to 5."
"5." I replied without hesitation as I felt a wave of pain hit me. I clenched my teeth and bawled my hands into fists to brace myself.
"I thought you might say that," he chuckled, pulling out a syringe from his pocket and coming to administer it into my IV line.
"Thanks." I smiled, waiting for the feeling to overcome me. When it did my body began to immediately relax.
"It should be setting in now." He informed. "In the mean time, I need to check your wound and change your bandages."
I nodded. "Okay."
He didn't waste anytime and bought over new badges and began. I looked away not wanting to look, didn't wanna see how big of a scar I would have once I healed. I was going to go home with a lot of scars. This place was a danger to my life.
