Now

"Good morning to you! Good morning to you! Good morning dear Cande get out of bed before I drag you out! Good morning to you!!" Mikaela sang pulling back the curtains in my room letting in the first rays of the sun. I looked at the clock on my night stand 5:45 it read. "Five more minutes" I mumbled flipping on to my stomach burrowing my face into my pillows. "No love because in an hour our parents are going to be on screen and don't you want to look lovely for them? Not that you don't look lovely no, but you kind of have last night's makeup rubbed all over your face. You may be Immortal Cande but do you really want to be an immortal with bad skin?" Leaning over I looked into the vanity mirror to see what Mikaela was making a fuss about. "Sweet mother baby Jesus! I look like a puffed up panda bear!" "No not puffy but you do in fact look like a panda. Go take your shower and get ready, the girls are up and getting ready for school. So hurry." Mikaela handed me a towel and disappeared.

In the bathroom it felt different, like if someone was in there with me. "Mikaela?" I called out waiting for her to pop out from behind the shower curtain in an attempt to scare me. "Yes" She called back from down stairs. I didn't respond and held off on getting into the shower for a minute. "You didn't respond what's wrong love?" Mikaela asked scanning my face for any sign of distress or emotion. "Nothing Mika do you smell anything or can sense anything different in here?" "Cande if you just took a shit and are trying to play a trick on me that's just cruel!!" "No Mikaela, I can feel something but I can't see an." I cut myself of as my eyes focused on a faint figure in the corner hiding. It was clearly a male and he realized I noticed his presence. He was very clumsy on trying to escape through the wall. You see our house had all kinds of different traps so if anything paranormal that wasn't invited in got in, it could not leave. "What, what do you see Cande? I don't see anything." Mikaela was trying to focus her eyes in the corner where I was looking. "Mika get the stunner from my dresser please." She returned just as fast as she had left. "No, no i'm sorry OK. I'm a pervert I know but there's no need for that." He pleaded leaning farther into the wall. "How can you even see me i'm not in my solid form. Please just leave me alone and escort me out." Not stunning him didn't even cross my mind. "Eww a ghost! Not just that but he's an unattractive ghost!" Mikaela laughed as he took on his solid form from being stunned. "Take him out Mika so I can finish getting ready." I took probably the fastest shower I had ever taken and just threw on any outfit. My makeup was what took me time. You see I don't consider myself attractive at all. Other people do but I don't, i'm short with big brown eyes, tanned, and black hair that is shaved on the left side. Sighing "I thought Immortals were supposed to be beautiful." "What was that? Because I know I didn't not just hear you say that Cande." Mikaela sat right by me at my vanity looking in the mirror. She was gorgeous she had blue green eyes, was tall, and had long flowing brown hair. She looked like a model for the most part. "I thought vampires didn't have a reflection." I teased and Mikaela applied the millionth coat of pink lip gloss to her lips. "Oh hush you, now come on lets go." She grabbed onto my wrist and lead me down stairs.

Even though she couldn't hurt me she was still so gentle with myself and everyone that wasn't a vamp like her. At the table sat Rachel and Taylor eating breakfast and mindlessly watching whatever was on t.v. Taylor looked very much like Mikaela but her face was very different. I could say the same for Rachel looking like me. "No one look" Mikaela called out from the kitchen island with her back towards us. She was adding her blood substitute to her coffee. She didn't like to do that in front of anyone, she considered it to be in bad taste. Just like Mikaela had said at exactly seven the big monitor powered up revealing a very happy five year old with big beautiful eyes smiling. I felt my eyes swell with tears looking at her. I couldn't believe my niece was five years old and I wasn't there to share in her little triumphs. Her first smile, laugh, tooth, steps. All of that I was thousands of miles away. Yeah as soon as they happened they either recorded it to show us or they told us about it. It just wasn't the same. I didn't get to do this often, we were lucky if we got two broadcasts in a month so I tried to not cry. I didn't want them to know how in the four years we've been apart it still hurts like the first day they left me. I wanted them to think I was fine and successful in career and caring for Rachel. Our visit went as usual basically catching up with one another mostly talking about Lilly and how she would be starting school soon. I gave in and started crying trying to keep silent but I couldn't. Mikaela, Rachel, and Taylor scooted closer to me each holding and reassuring that everything would be ok sooner or later. I had been the cause for everyone on screen to also cry. "I'm so sorry." I breathed wiping my eyes with a tissue Taylor had gotten. "We'll be together again soon. I love you all." My mom said as the screen faded out to black. We sat there in silence for a few moments thinking of how homesick we actually were. "I'll take the girls to school." Mikaela finally said breaking the silence. I just nodded and sat on the couch.

"Incoming transmission" The monitor repeated over and over again. "On screen" I replied hesitantly not really wanting to talk to anyone right now. My emotions were too out of whack to deal with people. "Ah Ms. Cande Luna what a lovely sight to see one of my former top agents again." I know that voice, that was the voice of my old captain back when I worked for the agency. Back when things had barely broken out. Once I found out I was immortal and strong I helped take down some very bad infected people. I got out when I realized my job was effecting Rachel. I could not die but that didn't mean I couldn't get hurt, that's what worried her. "With all due respect sir I'm out, I resigned a year ago as did Mikaela. So whatever you need done the answer is no. Though I can't speak for Mikaela i'm sure she will say the same thing." Just then She walked in and saw who was on the monitor. "There she is the second part of my favorite team, Mikaela Kelevra how are you dear?" She made a horrible face then finally mustered out a "fine Chis." "Captain" He replied interlacing his fingers on his desk. "Now girls I need you to come down to the HQ, I need to discuss something with you. Come in your uniforms." He faded out before either of us could protest. "So are we really going?" Mikaela asked, she already knew the answer though. "If we don't go he'll just send a squad of his mindless wolves after us, make a scene, and drag us away to their car. So I guess it's best that we go on our own. I mean he didn't seem upset or anything who knows, he just might want to talk about nothing." Not even I was convinced with my answer, He wanted us to do something for him. I was just hoping it wasn't anything too much for us.
