Chapter Twenty Six-The Best Day

Maya sat on her bedroom floor with her back leaning against the door.Josh was on the other side trying to persuade her to open it but he knew how stubborn Maya was and he also knew she needed some time to grieve.Riley and Farkle had moved out a few weeks back and were going to meet Josh and Maya at the church.Today was Katy's funeral.Maya hated herself for feeling sad about her mothers death,after all this time of heartbreak and betrayal all Maya could feel was tortured.Tortured because she didn't have the chance to show her mother that her life was amazing without being rich.She was glad though that she got to make peace with Katy before her passing.If that hadn't have happened Maya's soul would be eternally haunted.
"Maya?You need to come out.We need to leave for the church now."
Maya dried her eyes and slowly stood up,clasping something in her hand.She unlocked the door and let Josh in.His eyes went straight to the item in her hands.
"What...wha is that?"
Josh got closer and pried Maya's fingers open.
"Surprise!"
Maya chuckled a little and showed him the product.

A pregnancy test.

A positive pregnancy test.

"Oh my god .You're actually pregnant??We're actually going to be parents?"
Josh was shocked and had a massive smile on his face.They rejoiced with a hug until Josh pulled awya and reminded Maya that it wastime to leave.

The Pastor said his part and everyone watched on as Maya slowly made her way up to the front.She paused at her mother's picture for a brief moment and then continued.
"Katy.You looked after me when I was young and vunerable.Even when we didn't have any money you still made it possible for me to have even a piece of a normal life.You stepped in as my father as well as being my mother and for that I will be eternally grateful......I now understand why you ended up the way you did.You relied on the bottle to help you through the worst parts of life when you could have relied on me,or Shawn or or anyone.But you wanted to be strong and get through it on your own and your strength has made me stronger my whole life.I now also understand why you wanted me to have a good husband who had a good background and I am sorry for not realising that what you were doing was out of love,but Joshua Matthews is the best husband possible and eventhough you two didn't exactly get along I am glad you got to know each other.Now I have to take your role as a mother...Yes mommy I am pregnant.I hope to be as caring as you were to me to my new child but I also know that I will be better than you were because you have taught me what not to do and what to do with a child.I promise I will never ever forget you and thankyou mom for giving me the best day....today.....and even my whole life.I love you mommy and I will miss you.Sleep peacefully now,with grandma Angela.I will join you someday."
Maya had tears in her eyes as she finally looked up from then stand.Everyone was in tears and Riley was all over the place.She didn't know whether to be happy that Maya was pregnant or sad that Katy was gone.

Josh looked at his beautifully courageous wife and smiled.If his child was even a slight fragment of what Maya was then he would be happy.
"Come on guys lets stop the water works,we're not dead yet."
Maya smiled at everyone and kept the spririts high in the room.

Everyone went home that day happy that Maya was okay and Maya,Josh,Riley and Farkle went back to Maya and Josh's apartment to celebrate the news of the pregnancy.
As for Katy?Well Katy watched on at her daughter,proud of who Maya had become.

It truly was the best day.
