Riley was especially worried about having a baby. She would have to raise it and feed it and be a good mom. She would have to nurture and support it as it made its way through life. She would have to eventually let it go after looking after it for so long and getting such a strong attachment. She would have to pay for it as well and babies were not cheap. First though, she would have to give birth to it. When Maya gave birth, Maya went into a comatose state and didn't wake up for a while. So, of course Riley was terrified that she would give birth and something horrible would happen to the baby. She was absolutely horrified by the fact that the baby might have to grow up without a mom or she would have to carry on life with no baby. All of these things scared Riley and Farkle did his very best to try to convince her that she would be a wonderful mom and nothing bad would happen.
"Why does it scare you so much? There have been no problems so far and you have no background of any medical problems and neither do I. The baby will be fine."
"I'm scared because of what happened to Maya and......"
Farkle clamped a hand over Riley's mouth and visibly sighed.
"You are very close with Maya and I won't deny that. You can practically read each other's minds. Sad as it is though, you two are not related. By marriage sure, but not genetically not by blood. You don't have the same D.N.A. You sulk be fine. You believe me don't you?"
"Of course Farkle. Thank you for helping me."
That seemed to console the very annoyed Farkle. Riley didn't believe him though. Herself and Maya were so in tune that anything that happened to Riley happened to Maya as well. When Riley was bullied she took it out on Maya so that she could see what was happening. She saw what was happening. Of course she did. It's Maya. When Riley cries, Maya cries and vice versa. Not many people could understand it, yet again not many people have that kind of friendship. As much as Riley loved Maya and wouldn't trade their friendship for the world, she really didn't want a problem and she hoped for her sake and the baby's sake, for once, the universe would leave them alone. The universe does as the universe wants. Sometimes the universe is cruel and takes away the people and the things that you love the most. Other times the universe does something that seems cruel in the beginning but in the end made your life better. There are precious times though, those special moments, when the universe decides to be nice and make someone's better straight away.
The birth of River Matthews was one of those moments. Riley had been in labour for about 3 hours when a brunette head was seen and the baby was born. Riley cried. Farkle cried. Maya cried. Josh pretended he didn't cry. Autumn cried a little and then she met her distant cousin and her mothers' best friends' son and kicked him. River didn't cry. He almost stared in shock at the fiery little blonde and quickly turned away. Soon, Cory and Topanga had arrived with Auggie and Ava. Topanga held the tiny baby in her arms and after a blissful five minutes of staring reminded herself she was a grandmother and immediately felt old. Cory held the baby afterwards and told him of Shawn and Topanga and Riley. Especially Riley.
"She's clumsy and goofy and has no hand-eye-foot-body co-ordination at all. She silly and sweet and the best daughter in the world. You know what River? She'll be a great mom too. She's loving and I'm so very proud of her. So so so proud. Because she went against my word and grew up. She made the world hers. You are not to do that. Nope. You will obey my wishes and remain small and sweet and away from girls. Ya hear me? I'm joking you know. No one listens to me.
I'm celery. "
