"All your girlfriends have been models or actresses," I rolled my eyes, making Jake chuckle next to me.
We were in his car, driving to a surprise he apparently had for me. I didn't know what it was, but I didn't expect it to be anything super big. He wasn't going to get down on one knee and propose, so I needed to chill out a bit.
We were talking about ex's, mostly because I had a horrible track record and it was like Jake sensed it. He, on the other hand, only managed to date the elite so his girlfriends were all perfect. The definitely beat me on ever level; Jake was way too far out of my league.
"That's because they understand the travel," Jake said from next to me, trying to defend his self from the judgemental look I was giving him. "It never lasts long because they are usually boring under all the looks."
"You and Hanley have made it work though," I pointed out, wishing that we were talking about anything else in the whole world. I needed to get over this; I needed to be reminded that Jake was completely off limits. Not to mention the fact that he wasn't interested at all.
"Not really," Jake shrugged. "I don't see her much, we fight every time we talk. I think we only stay together because it's convenient for both of our careers. She gets publicity from my fans, watching her movies, paying for her perfume and clothes."
I waited for him to continue, to explain how she helped his career. Jake stayed silent, his brain ticking over from the look on his face.
"And she gives you?" I asked, unsure if I was stepping over the line. Jake was currently sharing with me, but I knew he could flick it off like a switch and retreat inside himself. It was insanely annoying when he did that as well, like talking to a brick wall.
"She did make me look like a good guy, but I guess that was ruined yesterday," he snickered, almost like he found it funny. From the slight smile on his face I presumed his did find it funny. I couldn't understand why, he'd been accused of cheating and here he was laughing about it. "What about you?" he asked, glancing over to me before looking back to the road.
"What about me?" I frowned, wondering what he wanted to know. If he thought I'd dated a movie star to make myself look better to the rest of the world, well that was a big fat no.
"Boyfriends? Tell me about them," Jake pushed, reminding me that we'd been talking about ex's. I shuddered at the thought of mine, they were all terrible and ended horrifyingly.
I stayed silent for a bit, wondering if I would give Jake the satisfaction on knowing about my horrible past. There was some ugly stuff back there. He stopped at a red light and looked over to me, his eyebrows pulled together in confusion. I was always the first one to spill stories, thoughts and opinions out of the two of us. So I could understand why he was a little confused about my hesitation. He expected me to tell him, just like I'd expected him to tell me.
"I had a couple of them over the years, they never lasted long because they were with horrible guys," I shuddered at the thought, the face of each boyfriend appearing in my head. They may have been good looking, but they were all losers. "The first one was in my first year of university, he stole from me and sold my stuff for money. I didn't find out until three months into the relationship when I couldn't find my sisters necklace she'd given me in year eleven. The second one was in my third year and he was screwing every one of my friends, yet no one wanted to tell me. Instead, I found out through my best friend's boyfriend when they broke up because she'd cheated with my boyfriend."
I rolled my eyes at the last one, remembering the whole ordeal. It was like I attracted idiots, a magnet for men who had a hard time at being nice and normal human beings.
