"I have the fucking right to worry about him! He's my friend!" I heard Danny's raised voice echoed.
My eyelids where still a bit heavy when I tried to open them. But I wanted to see Danny and hear his voice again. I needed him. I wanted to know why my side was hurting so badly.
"Danny." I called out hoarsely.
"I'll give you a minute." A deep voice said and footsteps walked away.
"Baby, I'm here." Danny's voice was now close and his hand was on my cheek. "Open your eyes. I need to see those beauties."
I opened my eyes and looked at him with a smile.
"Oh, baby, I'm so sorry this happened to you." He said and planted kisses all over my face.
"Don't be sorry." I held his hand. "How long was I out?"
"Two days. You lost a lot of blood." He sighed. "Jake and everyone involved were all expelled and arrested. They're all awaiting trial."
"I feel like this is my fault."
"Max, don't blame yourself. You're the victim here."
"But somehow I feel like the bad guy."
"Baby, you didn't do anything wrong. Right now you just need to rest to get better."
I nodded and he kissed my lips. "Has my mother stopped by?"
"She did... but she didn't come in. She just said that she didn't want to see her sinner of a son."
"Of course she'd say that."
"Max, maybe you shouldn't be staying with her. You should stay at my place for a while. My parents won't mind."
"I can't. She'll come after with a pitchfork and a Bible."
"Don't worry about it. I'll protect you."
"If I do end up staying with you, I promise that once I turn eighteen I'll be out looking for apartments."
"You want to leave me so soon?" He smirked.
"Trust me, when I have my own apartment we can do whatever weird shit we want." I smirked.
"I like the sound of that." He smiled. "Do you want something to eat?"
"No, I'm okay. I just want to stay with you for a while. Lay with me."
Danny lay by my side and wrapped his arms around me. I cuddled into his chest and sighed contently.
"I love you, Maxy." My boyfriend said while caressing my cheek.
"I love you too, Danny."
"I'm going to marry you one day and we'll have a house with a big backyard and two kids running around. Maybe even a dog."
"Sounds like a plan."
With that, I drifted off into sleep contently.
