"I'm home from therapy!" Danny called and I heard the door shut.

"In the kitchen." I said as I pulled the pan out of the oven.

Tonight was the night I was going to tell Danny about getting the job in California. I wanted to take it but I also wanted my boyfriend to come with me. It would pay more than I got at my job now and I would finally have the money to buy a house.

"Mmm, smells very good." Danny chuckled, wrapping his arms around me and kissing my neck. "You're making my favorite food in your tightest pair of boxers. Now tell me, have you been naughty?"

"No, I just wanted to make you baked mac n' cheese and look sexy because you just went your first therapy session and I am so proud of you." I wrapped my arms around him and kissed him.

"So am I getting laid tonight?" He smirked.

If you don't hate me after I tell you I'm going to California, I thought.

"Maybe." I smiled and gave him another peck on the lips.

"Good, I've been longing for that booty all day." Danny said and gave me a smack on the ass.

"Sit."

"Yes, sir." He grinned and sat down.

I served us both and we ate in peaceful silence. The words were so close from coming out of my mouth but I just couldn't say them. He deserved to know.

"I need to tell you something." I blurted out quickly.

Danny looked up at me with those glistening hazel eyes and his lips parted slightly. By the look on his face, he was worried I was going to tell him I had cheated on him or something worse. There were a million possibilities of what words would come out of my mouth and each one of them was going through his head.

"I got a job offer." I whispered.

"That's great." Danny smiled.

"It pays really well and I'll get a lot of off time. But it's in California."

Danny didn't say a word. He just gave me a look of disappointment and anger, then got up and put his plate in the sink.

"Danny, I want you to come with me."

"I already told you, I'm not going to California. I have to take care of my family." He sighed and didn't bother looking at me. "You know, maybe it wasn't meant to be."

My heart sunk in my chest. "Danny..."

"Go to California, Max." My boyfriend locked eyes with me. "Go get your job, find another man, get married, and have kids. Because I can't do that for you. I will never be able to do that for you."

"I just want to be with you."

"But you can't. Because one day you'll regret not talking that job and you won't be happy. All I want for you is to be happy, Max. But I'm the one keeping you here."

I was in shock. I didn't have the words to respond.

"I'll be back tomorrow to pick up my stuff." He sighed. "You're the best boyfriend that I ever will have and I'm sorry it had to end like this. Goodbye, Max."

And just like that, I let the love of my life walk out the door.
