As I sat in the taxi, I fiddled with the keys in my hands. Even though I had moved away, I still had my key to the Dominitri house. It was late and everyone was probably asleep. Both Danny and Derek always told me that I was welcome at any time and that I could stay there if I ever needed somewhere to crash. So that's exactly where I was headed.
I paid the cabbie and grabbed my luggage out of the trunk. Looking at the house was like remembering an old memory. It felt like I hadn't seen this place in years.
Turning the key, I stepped inside and immediately heard the click of the safety of a gun. I froze, putting my hands in the air. Had I just walked into the wrong house?
"Walk out before I shoot you, motherfucker." I heard the husky voice say. Derek stood in the darkness in his pajamas aiming a revolver at me.
"Derek, it's me." I said so he'd put the gun down.
"Max? What the hell are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in Cali?" He asked as he placed his revolver on the kitchen counter.
"My mom kicked me out and I have no where else to go."
Derek pulled me into a tight hug. "I missed you, kid. We all did. Things haven't been the same without you here."
"Well, I'm glad my homophobic mother could lead me here." I sighed. "Wait, when did you get a gun?"
"Just don't tell Danny or Xavier."
"Are they both asleep?"
"Well, the idiot is passed out from being drunk and the other one went to bed early."
"Wait, which idiot?" I paled, hoping it wasn't Xavier.
"The oldest."
"Hey, at least it's not the seventeen year-old."
"Let's just say he hasn't been too much of an angel either. He's going to parties and drinking with his friends and coming home wasted. I swear, next time he pulls this, I'm sending him to boot camp."
I chuckled. "I'll help straighten him out, don't worry."
"You must be beat. I'll grab you a few blankets and a pillow and you can crash on the couch for now. The guest room has a bunch of random shit in it that I still have to go through."
I took off my jacket and put aside my bags. After saying goodnight to Derek, I made myself comfortable on the couch.
I had missed this place so much. So that night, I vowed to never leave it again.
