Ryder laughed freely as we raced down the highway, his arms resting lightly at his side, his hand lazily on my thigh.
"Will you tell where we're going please, Ryder?" I begged, as Ryder only dropped one eye in a wink.
"Never."
I giggled lightly before looking out to the road. We drove for about thirty more minutes before Ryder drove off to an unpaved road before glancing to me, "No questions, we're almost there."
I bit my lip to keep from smiling as I nodded, Ryder knew me so well.
We stopped on the side, Ryder pulling slightly into the grass. He walked around to my side of my father's truck, before letting me out. I took his hand as he helped me out, a boyish grin on his lips.
Then he grabbed a bag from the backseat, before holding his arm for me to latch onto as he led me into the grassy meadow.
"What is this place?" I asked, the meadow was green, pastel colored flowers littered along the edges.
"You never want to come to me for anything, and I understand why." I felt uncomfortable as I knew he was mentioning my spying of his file at the police station. "I want, from now on, to be more open with you. So this place is me doing that."
I looked around confused but also my heart thumped loudly in my chest at his soon-to-be sharing of information.
"I used to take Eddie- well Zach- here. When things would get really bad at home, I'd just load him up in our car and take him here for the afternoon." Ryder smiled lightly at the mention of his brother who recently passed.
I smiled sadly, helping Ryder lay out of the blanket that he brought, then leaned against his chest, sitting in his lap. "What are you going to do about that?" I asked nervously.
"What do you mean, babe?" Ryder rubbed his hands up and down my thighs as he spoke, unconsciously soothing me.
"About Zach, funerals and all."
Ryder sighed, "Nothing, I suppose. The police have his body and I can't go get it without explaining why I need it, that he's my brother and all, that'll only bring up more questioning. His body isn't worth that."
I frowned, "Ryder, despite his cruelness in the last of his life, he's still your brother." I rubbed his arms.
"What exactly did he do to you?" Ryder asked, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
My heart froze in my chest, my palms beginning to moisten in fear.
"It's in the past, don't worry about it, Ryder." I kissed him lightly to distract him. Proving to work, Ryder lightly placed his hand on my jaw to keep my mouth in place as he moved me to straddle his lap.
"Baby," He spoke as he moved his hands to my hips as he began to kiss down my neck.
"Please tell me." He whispered before licking a bold stripe down my throat, I closed my eyes moaning.
"It's killing me. I have to know." He pulled away from my neck to look me in the eye.
"I don't want to."
Ryder seemed taken back, hurt flashing through his eyes. "How can you expect me to open up if you won't?"
"It's not that," I paused as Ryder kissed my cheek softly.
"Please, Shay. I need to know, it'll be like closure to me."
"But, I don't want you to remember your brother this way."
Ryder shook his head before looking around the meadow, "Shay, I want to be serious with you so I need to know, besides I'll always have good memories of my brother."
I nodded, respecting his wishes.
"Well, he came onto our farm as a ranch hand at first, my father basically doing as he had with you. Then things changed," I paused watching Ryder's reaction carefully, "He got possessive."
Ryder frowned, "What do you mean by that?"
I felt a tear roll down my cheek, "He would hit me, all the time. He even-" I cut myself off, not wanting Ryder to know anymore.
Ryder sat there for a moment, his expression blank then he spoke: "What else did he do?"
"Nothing," I was more frightened of Ryder's blank expression than anything.
"Tell me." He demanded.
"He took my first."
Ryder looked confused for a moment, "Your first time? Like first time having sex? He took it forcefully?"
I sobbed as I nodded.
"You're not a virgin?"
I shook my head as Ryder seemed shocked, his hands shaking.
He didn't say anything as he just sat there.
"Please say something, you're scaring me."
"Have you had sex with anyone other than that time?"
"No."
Ryder nodded as he pulled me back into his lap, before wiping my tears. "I would never lay on hand on you, Shay. Nor would I ever force you to do anything like that that you didn't want to do, or were sure that you wanted to do."
"I know, Ryder." I kissed his nose lightly.
"He doesn't deserve to have virginity, that wasn't his to take. You are still a virgin in my book. I would never do that to you, Shay, I care about you so much."
My heart pounded in my chest as Ryder rambled on how I didn't deserve how Zach treated me and that he would never risk to get his body now.
Suddenly, I knew if I didn't say it now, I never would. Interrupting him, I said: "Ryder, I think I'm in love with you."
