*Ryder's POV*
My father.
My father, are you kidding me?!
He's the one who's been threatening me to rejoin his damn gang and now has taken Shay.
"Look," Ansel started again, trying to gain my attention. "He's doing this on purpose, what is it really isn't your father? What if it's just someone who signed his initials?" Ansel suggested, but I knew better.
"There's a few things you just don't do in a gang, and that's one of them. Your gang is supposed to be your family, they wouldn't do that. But, what I don't understand is why would my father fake his own death?"
Kelsey shrugged, her eyes lifeless. She looked so lost with Shay, and it killed because I knew I honestly looked just like her.
"We need to execute a plan soon, okay Ryder? I can't take this sitting around and doing nothing. They have her, and they aren't going to let her go. We need to get her." Kelsey was growing impatient with their games and I could say I was as well. It'd been three days since the note from my father.
I nodded in agreement, unsure of what our plan could be, we need to have the upper hand but I wasn't sure what that is yet.
Ansel stood up, pacing back in forth in front of Kelsey and I. Finally, he clapped his hands together.
"I got it!"
I stood up straighter, interested in what Ansel could have thought of.
"We send them a note, throw them off. Then offer to trade Ryder for Shay at some meeting place then Kelsey and I will go and get Shay from their hang-out. It'll be easier to get her then because most of them will go to retrieve Ryder, but Ryder won't be there so they'll get mad and return home and Shay will be gone. Then we'll have to deal with a pissed off gang but at least we'll have Shay back, right?"
I stared in awe at Ansel, what the hell has this boy been studying?
"How do you know they won't bring Shay to the trade? Or that they'll even agree to it?" Kelsey questioned, she was just as intrigued in this idea as I was.
Ansel shrugged, "Typical gang behavior, they won't ever play even. Not bringing Shay to the trade would be exactly what they would do, they just want Ryder, they don't want to play fair."
Kelsey glanced at me, "I agree with Ansel. This shit is going to be hard to pull of and a few people may die, but is that something you're willing to do, for Shay?" I asked.
Kelsey's mouth opened but no words came out. Glancing at Ansel, she nodded to my question, Ansel doing the same.
"I know someone else who can help us, he can go with you to help you with the trade off. You'd still have to be there but you just have to distract them long enough for us to get Shay and get out. You may need to fight off some people." Ansel pointed out, as I was pleasantly surprised by his leadership skills once again.
"Who?"
Ansel grimaced, "Kyle."
I wanted to punch Ansel even though I knew that he was right. Kyle was someone who would want to help Shay, even though the reason makes me want to punch Kyle as well.
"I guess he can help, we'll need it." I groaned, as Ansel smiled.
"By the way, where did you learn all this stuff?" I asked, my own curiosity getting the best of me.
Ansel smirked, "I started watching The Walking Dead," he shrugged, "I feel like Rick."
For the first time since Shay was taken, I felt a true laugh slip through my lips.
