Breakfast was quieter than usual, probably because I wasn't speaking and neither was Ryder. My parents were just speaking lowly to themselves.
"Well, your school called and told us that you had tomorrow off due to ice on the road."
"That's great! Do you think Kelsey and I could go-"
"Woah woah woah, hold up there, Shay. We both knew you would ask to go dancing once we told you and we wish for Ryder to make more fiends and for y'all to get along better."
Oh please, no. Don't let it be what I'm thinking. Not after last night.
"You may only go dancing with Kelsey if you take Ryder with you."
"What?!"
Ryder's reaction was a lot quicker than my own, and honestly surprised me.
"Do you not wish to go, Ryder?" My mother asked him, as I prayed he would say yes.
Ryder looked at me before answering, "Of course I want to go, I was just taken back to be invited."
Damn.
"Well, Shay, are you going to be going dancing tonight with Ryder or not?"
My options aren't good, but we can just ditch Ryder once we get there, right?
"That sounds so fun. We'll leave at four to make sure we're there by five. I'm going to call Kelsey."
They all seemed pretty pleased with my answer and I expected a smile from Ryder, but once I looked at him again, his signature smirk had once again taken over his lips.

"One more curl, Shay."
I sighed in defeat as Kelsey placed the curling iron on the dresser announcing that she was done. Her blonde hair was pin straight, light make up covering her face. A light pink dress going down to mid thigh, with her boots.
My lime green dress going down to the same length with my boots that I had scrubbed for hours to get all the dirt off of.
"It's already 4:15! Let's go ladies!"
Ryder called up the stairs as I rolled my eyes.
"I still can't believe that Ryder is going with us. What's he going to do there? Dance? That'd be funny."
I giggled at Kelsey, as we both made our way downstairs. Ryder wearing his usual snug black jeans with a white button down shirt. It looked nice on him.
"You both look great, now may we go?"
I tried to ignore his harsh tone and take it as a compliment but he's such ass that it's hard sometimes.
"This is gonna be a long car ride."
Kelsey groaned in agreement as we followed Ryder out to my dad's truck.

We'd been here for an hour and just as I suspected Ryder disappeared as soon as we stepped through the door. Kelsey and I hit the dance floor as couples flew by next to us. Kelsey finally got asked to dance, leaving me alone at the bar.
"Kelsey leave you?"
I looked up to see Ryder looking down at me, he isn't hammered like I suspected he would be.
"She's dancing with that guy."
I stated as I pointed them out on the dance floor, not helping but feeling a little jealous.
"Dance with me."
My head snapped back up to his emerald eyes, it wasn't a question but a statement.
"Um-"
"Just dance with me, Shay."
I smiled, slowly nodding before taking his tanned outstretched hand.
Once we reached the dance floor, I spotted Kelsey smirking at us as Ryder placed his hands on my waist, mine going to his shoulders.
"Are we going to talk about last night?"
I groaned, but shaking my head.
"Shay, what's going on? Why would you be that upset?"
I gritted my teeth as we swayed across the dance floor.
"Why do you care about me all of a sudden. Just go back to hating me already, would you?"
Ryder looked taken back.
"Hate you? Shay, oh god, I could never hate you. I was trying to protect you from me. I knew that I could never hate you from the moment I laid eyes on you. You're gorgeous."
I blushed as Ryder twirled me away then closer to his body. Then before I knew it, his face was leaning down towards mine.
