"Where's your homework?"
I shrugged, as our substitute groaned, moving past me to the next student who gladly handed hers in. I used to care so much about school, before Ryder, now I was just more worried about him. I need to get back on track, if I ever wish to get out of this rundown town. Have a life for me, and not just slowly turning back to dust like everyone else.
The bell rang, releasing us to lunch. I quietly filed out with the other teenagers, their excited chatter about who kissed who and who's going to the next popular party. Kel and I never cared much for the common drama, and I was never invited to those parties, what did I care?
"How you holding up? Are you okay?"
Kelsey's normal question came to the surface, ever since I shared my past, she was more worried about me. It felt good, a little bit. She didn't have to worry about Zach much though, ever since the big fight, he's kept his distance. Just a quick smile before scurrying into the barn, he knew he had hell coming for him.
"Okay, I guess."
Ryder's never at school anymore, it seems.
"Seen Ryder?"
She shook her head, "Nope, Ansel has."
I smiled just knowing that she had been talking to Ansel.
"How's that going?"
Her cheeks flashed pink. "How's what going?"
I smirked, wiggling my eyebrows as she let out another girlish giggle.
"Oh, he's so sweet. He wants to take me out on Friday night to some party, but I don't know. I want to be there for you, you can come?"
I scrunched my nose up, "A party?"
She nodded, before sighing.
"Ever since Ansel joined the football team, he's been hanging out with the popular jocks and they keep inviting him to all their parties, I think he really wants to go. Plus, this party is Kyle Johnson's." She said proudly.
Kyle Johnson was the star quarterback, he seemed to be out of a movie, expect the fact that he was super sweet and wasn't dating some bitchy cheerleader. We have nice cheerleaders as well, but he didn't seem interested in any of them which I thought was odd, but all around he was a good guy, and really good looking. The guy that fathers would be proud to see their daughters dating.
I opened my mouth to speak before I felt someone tap my shoulder, I turned to come face-to-face with Kyle, himself.
"Hey, you're Shay, right? Plus, you're Kelsey, you're dating Ansel, right?"
I glanced at Kelsey as she shyly nodded, when had they made it official?
I nodded to Kyle as he smiled big.
"Great, that's good to hear. Ansel's such a great guy, and player."
Kelsey's cheeks turned pink at his compliment for her new boyfriend.
I glanced over to see Ryder, my heart beginning to beat faster.
I could hear Kelsey thanking Kyle behind me, which made me wonder what he had said then.
Ryder laughed and was then that I noticed Nicole, the head cheerleader, and she had to be the sweetest girl I had ever met. On top of being nice and smart, she was gorgeous. A perfect role model for the school.
I turned back to Kyle and Kelsey.
"So, are you both coming to my party on Friday night? I know we already invited Ansel, but you are both welcome as well."
