*Shay's POV*

I felt my fingers moving but my vision was still black. Attempting to open my eyes, I realized there was a cloth blocking my sight. My hands weren't bound, but my waist was tied against a chair. Voices could be heard in the background, as the anxiety set in. I was kidnapped. Holy shit.

I strained to hear snip-its of what they were saying.

"-first part is out."

"Why the hell would you-"

I could hear fists being pounded into skin, the two men that I had just heard had gotten into a fight.

"We want him, but don't hurt her. You know the deal."

That voice, it was so familiar, it was burned into me. I knew it. But who?

Footsteps echoed as they left the room I was in, and then I was alone.

*Ryder's POV*

Plans and training was the only things that we could really do now until we hear from them, that's the way it must go.

"We must think like them, do what they ask, but still be three steps ahead of them."

Kelsey and Ansel nodded, as we they sat side by side on one of the square bales of hay inside the horse barn. Shay's parents had called the police that she was missing last night, but they couldn't know that the gang, Black Blood, was involved. We need to deal with them directly without the police.

"How will they think?' Ansel asked, holding onto Kelsey's hand.

He was a lot easier to tell when it came to this difficult story, he didn't get emotional but I could tell he was holding back.

"This is their favorite part of being in a gang, it's the most interesting thing that they will do. They won't let it end too quickly, like I said before it's a game to them."

Ansel nodded, trying to hide his disgusted expression.

"What if we don't think like they would?" Kelsey suggested as Ansel and I both stared at her.

"What do you mean?" Ansel whispered, rubbing her hand.

"They will expect us to think like them because they know that we have Ryder and that is what we should do. So maybe we should do something else, surprise them. It'll give us the upper hand."

Ansel stared in awe at his girlfriend as I thought over her suggestion. She's right, of course they'll expect us to do what I'm suggesting, that's the gang side of my brain. We have to do the opposite, have the element of surprise.

"You're right, good job Kelsey. Now we just need to wait for the first move from them."

Kelsey nodded, before taking Ansel's hand as they both left the barn, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

I tried to protect her by distancing myself from her but the entire time she was still in danger. I should have known, I should have been her bodyguard rather than thinking that she was safe because I wasn't around anymore. Selfishness caused this, because I freaked out over something I know was not her fault.

Placing my head in my hands, I heard the loud rumble of the thunder announcing ran was coming soon. I should have protected her. Throwing myself up, I kicked a bucket over, grunting in pain.

Walking over to Rebel's stall, her head was out as she glancing around nervously.

"Rebel, what do I do? I want her to be home, why did they have to take her?" I whimpered lowly, petting her muzzle as she leaned into my touch.

"Shay would be so proud of me, I'm not scared of horses anymore and here I am talking to them just like something she would." I let a sad smile rest on my lips as I combed my fingers through Rebel's mane.

Frowning, I glanced down at the back of her stall, a white piece of paper sticking out of her wood shavings.

Unlocking the stall, I picked it up. As soon as I saw it, I knew what it is was.

Brown hair, and beautiful matching eyes

She sure is a beauty, good choice.

Hate to take her from you, but you got to find her if you want her.

Good luck searching. Bring your whole new group.

I'm excited to meet everyone.

-C.B.

I frowned, my heart dropping, staring at the initials, there's no way that was him. He's dead. But, sure enough there it was, clear as day. The first clue, teasing that they have her and that they're expecting us to come for her quickly and without a plan just like everyone else. Typical. Our leader who actually isn't dead, this was normal from him. This was normal from Clay Black, my father.
