She was covered in blood. I didn't know what to do. The father apologized fifty times before I threatened to call the cops if he didn't leave immediately.
I had no idea about what to do or not to do when something like that happens, and I didn't wanna mess her up even more than she already was.
I called 911 and they came 5 minutes after. I went inside the ambulance with them until the hospital.
While waiting at the emergency room, I was seriously freaking out. What if it was as bad as it looked? What if she kept everlasting scars of this accident? What if she just never wakes up? And it would have been all my fault. All my god damn fault, because all I could do to that girl was hurt her. Because all I would ever bring to that girl was pain.
Thankfully, the doctor quickly came to let me know that she was alright and that she needed some rest. So I called Mike and told him that Lya had been hurt, hoping he wouldn't question me on how it happened. I hadn't think of what type of lie I was gonna say anyway. It was not time for that yet.
He came as soon as he could, pretty freaked out. I explained him that she was ok and that the doctors would let him see her after a few tests. He then asked me the expected question: what happened?
I thought in a split second of a thousand lies I could tell to explain what happened. But none was good enough. So I just told the truth... Well... Almost. Instead of telling him she spent the night with me, I just said she came in the morning to get a dvd she borrowed from me a long time ago. He didn't react to my so lie.
But he reacted to the fact I let her assist to a fight with the father. He got mad over the fact that she got hit and to him, I was the one to blame for what happened to her.
And I couldn't deny that. What happened was all my fault. I shouldn't have opened the door. I should have pretended that I was not home. Nah... I just shouldn't have kissed her in the first place. I shouldn't have spent the night with her. None of that should have happened if I had been smart enough to recall that I could not do that anymore. She was Mike's girl. And I was not single either. My first mistake was here. It was the fact that I forgot that she was no longer mine.
I had never seen Mike getting that mad before. He was clearly pissed at me and even asked me to leave, which I did. Because I felt that I had no right to be there when he was. Because I lied to him. Because I fucked up and did what I was never supposed to do to my best friend.
When I got home, Sarah was waiting in front of my door.
"Oh gosh!" She said while looking at my shirt stained with Lya's blood. "Mike called me. What happened?"
I really didn't want to talk to her. Because I knew I would have to lie again.
"Tom!" She repeated. "Is Lya ok?"
"Yeah..."
"What happened?"
"I'm sure Mike told you..."
"Yeah... He did. But what was she doing at your place?"
"She was getting some dvd..."
Sarah looked at me with a surprised expression.
"Dvd? Why would she come to get some dvd?"
"She wanted to get them back. She left them long time ago"
"Couldn't you give them back to her without her coming to your room?"
Her question surprised me.
"Does it make a difference?"
