Chapter 3- Getting Started! *edited*

Four bedroom house, two bathrooms, an attic, a basement and a big back yard. Some would call it the perfect house. I wouldn't know though. My consideration of a perfect house would be somewhere I can go and just relax. Not be a Shadow Hunter. Just me.

A brushing against my back brought me back to the present as I scoped out the next possible victims house.

"What do you got?" My partner Eric asked all serious for once.

Eric Nox, ladies and gentlemen, is a forty seven year old Shadow Hunter enlisted into our small clan after myself. He has black hair shaved down to his skull and dark brown eyes with a twinkle only a father could have. He is a father of two beautiful boys and married to his high school sweetheart. The perfect story if u must.

"Not much. There hasn't been much action inside or outside the house. What did you find?" I asked turning my gaze his way.

Eric scrunched up his nose before pulling out his trusty notepad. "Well seen as this time the details were concrete, I called a friend who called his friend who called his brother who's a professional hacker and we got your information." He murmured slightly breathless for some reason unknown to me. He smiled apologetically at me before murmuring a small "I have asthma!" Reply.

I arched and eyebrow before nodding for him to go on with the information.

"Her name is Vanelope Ortiz. She is thirteen years old. As you said she suffers from depression and hallucinations. Her older brother Gabriel is in the FBI. Her parents are both high schools over achievers and are now both Lawyers. She usually stays by herself at home. She has no friends and she is home schooled." Eric listed off flipping from page to page.

"Well is she alone right now?" I asked slowly.

"Well no. Her parents are home right now. Why?" Eric drawls his eyebrows drawing together.

"Let's go have a talk with them." I got out my car and walked across the street.

By the time I was just about to ring the doorbell Eric was right beside me grumbling something about 'teenagers now a day don't know how to plan things'. I rolled my eyes fondly and went right ahead and rung the bell.

"Who is it?" Asked a deep male voice.

"Police." I said simply.

The door opened after a few seconds by a man with a pot belly. He had greasy black hair and drunken grey eyes.

"Are you the escort I asked for?" He smirked lazily trying to seem attractive.

Bile seemed to want to crawl up my throat but I somehow manage to keep it down.

"Is Mrs. Abigail Ortiz here?" Eric asked his voice hard as steel.

"Oh her. She is my wife so yea she's here." Mr. Samuel Ortiz grumbled.

He moved back into his home leaving his white door opened for us to follow. Eric took the lead into the narrow hallway as I closed the door. The small hallway opened up into a big kitchen, were a blonde curvy woman stood up against the stove cooking something that smelled super spicy.

"Abigail someone's looking for you."Samuel said as he reached for a beer inside the tall fridge.

Abigail turned swiftly on the balls of her bare feet before quickly rushing towards us.

"Hi, how can I help you?" She asks a small line of wrinkles forming between her eyes.

"Hi Mrs. Ortiz, my names Amelia Silvers and my partner Eric Nox. Where here because we have suspicions that your daughter may be in true danger." I said quickly as if ripping of a bandage.

"Umm and what exactly is she in danger off?" Mrs. Ortiz asked clutching her dish towel to her chest.

I moved around her and peeked out the window. The sun was just beginning to set. A strange disarray of pinks and yellows and oranges blended into perfect unison.

"Your daughter is in danger of been taken. That's all we are allowed to say. If you will allow us we will protect your daughter here where she feels comfortable. If you do not agree we will be taking your daughter to a safe house were you will have no further contact with her until she is out of danger." Eric informed the distressed mother as he urged her into a kitchen chair.

I leaned against the wall next to the window and watched in silence. Mrs. Ortiz looked between Eric and me as if to see if we where bluffing.

"Not that I want you to do it but if you take my daughter, won't she be safer?" Mrs. Ortiz asked slowly.

"It doesn't matter where your daughter goes. This thing that wants to take her will find her anywhere she is." I tell her watching as whatever she was cooking started to bubble.

Mrs. Ortiz stood up and quickly turned off the stove before mixing a spoon into her pot. We spent about five minutes in silence with the only sound been the living room television and beer bottles bumping into each other been heard.

"I have two conditions..." Mrs. Ortiz trailed off uncertain. "You have to promise me she will not leave my home unless truly needed-"

"We already promised that." Eric cut her off.

She continued not at all offended. "And her brother has to help. He's a professional FBI agent. He can help." She demanded. Eric and I's gaze met before I rolled mine and nodded.

"Fine but we are in charged." Eric agreed.

Sometimes it's better to be alone where no one can hurt you!
