“He really said that?” Minzy asked the next morning. I had told her everything Jhonny said last night while he was drunk since I didn’t know what to do or what to believe. “Well then he obviously meant it” she said shrugging.
“I don’t want it to be true” I muttered, looking down at my plate. We had been the only ones awake at that moment so we decided to eat breakfast in the hotel’s dining room.
“Drunken people say stupid stuff but they tend to stay stuff that is on their mind. They don’t lie as far as I know” she said, taking another bite of her pancakes. I sighed and thought about it. Jhonny had been acting friendly lately but I never thought about it in that way. I only ever really thought of him as a friend. I shook any excess thoughts off. I was with Lorenzo. I shouldn’t be thinking about Jhonny.
“Morning” I jumped as I heard Jhonny’s voice. He gave me a smile and took the seat across from me.
“Hey” I muttered. He didn’t look any different. He didn’t look as if he felt awkward. He just looked like he had a bad headache which was a given since he had drank a lot last night. “How are you feeling?” I asked, placing my hand on his forehead.
“Horrible. I’m never drinking again” he groaned, putting his head on the desk.
“Do you want some aspirin or something?” Minzy asked him. He nodded his head and she dug in her bag and pulled out a container of aspirin. Jhonny grabbed the whole container which made her burst out laughing.
“You don’t need so much” she said, cocking one eyebrow.
“Trust me, I do” he said rubbing his forehead. Minzy made a loud coughing noise which caught my attention and made Jhonny groan with annoyance. She gestured with her eyes at Jhonny and I cocked my head to the side in confusion. Jhonny had his head down so he wasn’t seeing her gestures.
“Talk to him” she mouthed. I shook my head and she just nodded. “Jhonny, Shawna needs to talk to you” she said, tapping his shoulder. Jhonny looked my way and I smiled at him innocently. I sent a glare at Minzy and stood up and gestured for him to follow me. I stopped when we reached the golf course of the hotel. He looked at me expectantly and I sighed.
“Lastnightyoutoldmeyoulovedme” I said in one breath.
“I’m not following you” Jhonny said, looking confused.
“Last night you told me you loved me” I said. His eyes widened as he stared at me.
“I-I did?” he stuttered. “That’s not how I wanted to do it” he whispered. I assumed he was mostly talking to himself. I raised one eyebrow at him but I stayed quiet.
“I wanted to make this special and I chose not to do it because you’re with Lorenzo now” he said.
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
“I love you, Shawna. I’m in love with you” he said, taking hold of my hand and looking me directly in the eyes. There was not a drop of insincerity in his eyes which only served to scare me.
“I’m with Lorenzo” I said, pulling my hand out of his grasp.
“I loved you first!” he said, looking frustrated. “I waited three years to tell you this. Since I was fifteen. I thought you felt the same way but I was too scared to tell you then. I figured, when your parents told me I was coming with you, I would tell you. We are in the city of love right?” he said, letting out a humourless chuckle.
“I’m sorry Jhonny” I said, a few tears forming in my eyes. He sighed and took a seat on the nearby bench and put his head in his hands.
“It’s not your fault” he said, giving me a smile.
