Chapter 24 - Business as usual

This is just a filler

I watched as a few children ran around the bench I was sitting on. The sight made me smile, it made me feel relaxed and that was a feeling that wasn’t in my vocabulary as of late. I sighed in contentment as I slouched back into the bench. I strummed on my guitar softly, as to not draw attention to myself. The sun was blazing hot but it didn’t bother me.

I knew I wasn’t supposed to be alone with Tracy around but I needed to be alone to think. I had basically snuck out of the hotel to come here. Raine knew where I was although she didn’t approve.

“Shawna?” I heard a voice say from behind me. I turned around and saw Jhonny standing there.

“Hey” I said, giving him a small wave. I patted the space next to me and he took a seat.

“What are you doing here stranger?” he asked, giving me a teasing smile which made my stomach flip.

“What are you doing here?” I retorted.

“I asked you first” he said.

“I asked you second” I countered, making him chuckle. I felt him take hold of my hand but I didn’t fight it. It felt right. I smiled down at our hands and then at him. Was this the right time to admit it? Probably not.

“Smart” he muttered sarcastically. I used my free hand to smack his shoulder and he responded by sticking his tongue out at me

“I know right. I’m a genius” I said, flipping some hair over my shoulder dramatically.

“More like an idiot” he teased. I pulled my hand from his and punched him on the shoulder playfully and then pulled him into a head lock. “You’re so violent. Violence puts people in prison” he said, his voice sounding slightly strained.

“Meh why not? Free food” I joked.

“Prison food is worse than school food” he said shuddering.

“And how do you know that?” I asked. “Are you an ex -convict or something but you never told any of us?”

“Sometimes I wonder where you get these thoughts from” he said shaking his head and laughing at me.

“From my genius brain” I said, pushing him off the bench. He looked up at me shocked and then smirked.

“You have five seconds to run” he said. I stood up from the bench and ran, not really knowing where I was going, when I looked I saw Jhonny was tailing closely behind me. I tried to push my feet faster but eventually Jhonny caught up to me and sadly there was a pond nearby and we both fell in.

“Jhonny!” I exclaimed when we fell in.

“What?” he said, acting innocent. Why did I love him again?

“So why is it anytime we leave you either alone, you come back with injuries or soaking or both?” Tamani asked when we reached back to the hotel. Jhonny wacked him at the back of the head which made Tamani laugh. I smiled at the two of them and took a seat next to Jade who was smirking at me.

“So…Jhonny” Harry started trailing off. I narrowed my eyes at him and he simply smirked at me and wrapped an arm around Jade’s shoulder and she rested her head on his shoulder.

“Yeah….Jhonny is right over there bromancing with Tamani” I said gesturing to the two boys who had been play fighting. They stopped as soon as I said that and turned to look at me.

“We are not bromancing” Jhonny said, taking a step away from Tamani.

“You have to admit. You two have a bromance” Jade said.

“What does that even mean?” Tamani asked, looking genuinely confused.

“It means you two are close” Harry said. “Even though I’m Jhonny’s best friend.” He said, faking offence.

“It could be a three way bromance” I suggested to him.

“Nah. I’m taken” he said, pulling Jade closer to him. I smiled at the couple, wishing that maybe one day me and Jhonny could be like that when I got the guts to admit my feelings to him. I was still running through what to say and how to say it but somehow each scenario I created in my head ended up with me embarrassing myself. It was probably going to be harder than I expected.

I idly played with the water at my feet and giggled. I was sitting at the poolside at the hotel but I wasn’t feeling to swim so I decided to just put my feel in. I still needed to think about how I was going to tell Jhonny. There were so many ways to go about it. Do I serenade him? Do I just blurt it out and tell him? Do I have a mariachi band sing to him? The options were endless.

“Thinking about me?” a voice said from behind me making me jump and almost fall into the pool. I glared at the person but my gaze softened when I realized it was Jhonny.

“Where did you come from?” I asked him, putting my hand over my heart which was still beating rapidly.

“Same place your new brother or sister is going to come from” he said smirking at me as he sat next to me.

“I have every right to slap you” I told him flatly. He threw his head back laughing and I couldn’t help but stare at him. He looked so cute when he did that. I never noticed how his eyes crinkle slightly when he smile and laughed and his whole face lit up. It wasn’t unusual since Jhonny was always laughing or smiling; a trait which he picked up from his father most likely.

 “You can but you won’t cuz you love me” he said and my breath hitched. He knew? How did he know?

“I what you?” I asked, making sure I heard him correctly.

“I was joking” he said, shoving my shoulder lightly. “Unless……” he trailed off.

“Okay so I need to talk to you” I said, figuring this was the right time as we were still on the topic.

“About what?”

“Okay well I was doing some thinking and heart searching and I realized something. Jhonny, I-” I started.

“Hey guys!” Minzy said, appearing behind us. “There’s a buffet tonight and they have everything!” she exclaimed. Her eyes sparkling. Minzy had a love for food that can match no other although she was the tiniest person I knew.

“Let’s go!” Jhonny said, looking equally as excited. I gave him a sad smile and stood up and followed after them.

Of course that happened.

So tomorrow is grad (prom) and I’m excited. So tomorrow I won’t be updating I guess but I’ll update on Sunday

So the date for when I upload Saving Carter (the spin – off) is probably next week Sunday or week after I guess (rough estimate in my brain cuz this book is gonna be like 32 chapters and I tend to update daily so… ya
