"There! All done," I announced proudly as I placed the last of my gifts under the tree. Derek walked in and smiled at me as I admired my work.
"Finished them all?" he asked. I turned and nodded, relieved to finally have all my gifts wrapped.
"Der, where are all yours?" I asked, noticing that nothing he had bought was under the tree.
"I, uh- I just haven't wrapped them yet," he answer awkwardly, looking out the window.
"Why not?"
"I...because," he said, avoiding the question. I stood up and approached his large frame, wanting the truth. "Fine. I don't know how to wrap gifts," he mumbled, not meeting my eyes.
"What?" I chuckled. I couldn't believe it. "How do you give people their presents?"
"Well, I haven't really had anyone to give anything to since the fire until now," he said, sheepishly looking at me. My eyes went wide and I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him close.
"Baby!" I said. "I'll teach you how to wrap presents."
"You can't just, I don't know, wrap them for me?" he asked, giving me puppy eyes. I laughed and shook my head.
"Go on, go grab something and I'll teach you." Derek sighed and nodding, walking off. I spread out a roll of wrapping paper, getting everything ready. Derek returned with a rectangular box, something easy to start with. "Okay, so put it in the middle of the paper."
"Okay," he said, doing as I had told him. I showed him how to measure that the paper would fit over it and then let him cut it. I started the wrapping by folding one piece over and taping it, instructing him to do the same with the other piece.
"Already halfway there!" I told him, offering an encouraging smile. Derek grinned at me before looking back at the present.
"So, this next?" He picked up the excess paper on one side and folded it back, making me laugh and grab at his hands.
"No, no, no!" I explained, smoothing out the paper. "Like this." I showed him how to do the sides, turning the box for him to try the other end. Derek slowly and carefully tried to mimic my actions. I admired his wrapping job (even though it wasn't the greatest) and told him that he had done a great job. "Think you can do the rest yourself?"
"Uhm, they aren't all just boxes, so I may need your help with those..." He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, cheeks turning pink. I smiled cheekily and leaned over, giving him a sweet kiss on the lips.
"I believe in you, baby," I told him. "Just call if you need help!" With that, I left Derek to do his wrapping, giggling as I heard him letting out a few curse
words followed by cries of triumph.
