I rushed around my apartment, carrying boxes and totes filled with everything I had to my name. I had been packing and stacking all day, the work taking a toll on my body. I needed a break for a bit. With a sigh, I headed into the kitchen, grabbing a glass from an open box on the counter and filling it with water. I took several grateful gulps, the drink refreshing.
"Shit," I mumbled as the glass slipping from my hand and into the sink, chipping the glass and splashing water all over me. I groaned loudly, picking up the glass and tossing it in the trash. I looked down at my soaked shirt, ripping it off and laying it over one of the bar stools to dry.
I glanced down at my body, grinning as I admired my tattoos. The dark ink stuck out against my skin, showing the designs with beautiful contrast. I chuckled as I traced the triskelion on my right ribs lightly, thinking about how I came to obtain it.
"Why would you want to do that?" Derek asked, moving around the loft and picking up things here and there. I followed, trying to sell my idea to him.
"Because," I said, throwing my hands up. "I'm all about big gestures!" He turned and gave a sarcastic smile, making me grin. "It's just...I want something that's permanent to keep your memory around. And what's more permanent than a tattoo?"
"I'm leaving, Y/N, not dying," Derek said. I rolled my eyes at him, putting a hand on my hip.
"I know, but let's be honest. Are you ever coming back to Beacon Hills?" Silence hung in the air between us, thick and palpable. "Exactly," I said softly, a bit of sadness creeping into my tone. "Please, just let me do this."
"Alright," Derek finally said, nodding his head. I smiled wide at him, jumping up to wrap my arms around his neck, earning a light laugh.
*********
"Shit," I cursed through gritted teeth. My grip on Derek's arm tightened, nails digging in as the artist worked over my ribs. "This is the dumbest thing I've ever done. God, it hurts like a bitch. Why'd you let me do this?"
"I warned you," Derek chuckled, shaking his head. I tried to focus on my breathing to help with the pain. Finally, after several hours, it was done. I had a beautiful triskelion with Hale scrawled under it in cursive adorning my side. I smiled at Derek in the mirror as I studied it, meeting his eyes.
"It's amazing," I said, shaking my head in wonder. Derek smiled at me in agreement.
"It is."
A bittersweet smile crossed my face at the memory. God, I missed Derek. Not a day went by that I didn't think about him, sending good thoughts to wherever he was.
My fingers ran over to my other side, grazing over the arrow that was etched into my skin.
My fists slammed into the bag repeatedly as I waited for my training partner to show up. This was just a warm up to get my muscles loose. Just as I was in the middle of a kick, the door opened and Chris walked in, offering a smile as he moved to set his bag down.
"Bout time you showed up," I joked, stepped back to catch my breath. My body was already covered in a thin sheen of sweat, my breathing heavier than normal. I squirted some water into my mouth, swallowing gratefully.
"Good warm up?" he asked, taking in my appearance. I nodded, pulling on the gloves again and gesturing for him to grab the targets. He did so, assuming the position. After working out with those for awhile, sweat was dripping down my back. I stepped back and peeled my disgusting tank top off, leaving me in just my sports bra.
"What now?" I asked Chris, my knuckles too sore and split to working on boxing anymore.
"Sit-ups and push-ups," he told me. I nodded, dropping down and getting started. My muscles were burning, but I didn't care. Chris walked around me, observing my form and making a few tweaks here and there. "When did you get that?"
"The tattoo?" My voice was breathless as I continued to do push-ups, switching to my back and beginning to start on the sit-ups.
"Yeah. I've never seen it before," Chris said, his brows pulled together as he tried to study it. I smiled as I worked, trying my best to explain.
"I got it right before Derek left, just to keep his memory with me." I paused for a moment, looking up at him and stopping with the workout. "You know, I'm actually thinking of getting an arrow with the name Argent under it. What do you think?"
"Really," he said, slight shock on his face. "Why would you want to do that? I'm not leaving anytime soon." He grinned at me and I laughed a bit, standing up.
"I know," I replied. "We've just...we've gotten close and we don't exactly lead the safest lives, so I thought it'd be...nice." There was a silence between us as I held Chris' gaze. Eventually, he smiled and shook his head, looking at the ground before meeting my eyes again.
"If you want it, then go ahead," he said. I squealed excitedly, refraining from hugging him because of my sweaty body.
************
"Fuck, I forgot how much this hurts," I groaned, nails digging into the seat. Chris grinned next to me, watching as the ink was etched into my skin. "This was stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid."
"Too late to turn back now," Chris said, shaking his head. I turned to glare at him, my eyes venomous.
"Why don't you get down on the table and see just how much it stings," I hissed. He just shook his head at me, grabbing my hand and giving it a squeeze. Once it was finally finished, I admired it in the mirror, Chris standing next to me.
"That looks great, Y/N," he complimented. I nodded in agreement and smiled.
"I love it."
"Thank you for keeping a piece of me with you," he said, clapping a hand on my shoulder. I met his eyes, a look passing between us. We didn't need anymore words to express our excitement.
"I can't believe I actually did that," I said to myself, shaking my head and grinning at the memories. With a content sigh, I went back to gathering boxes and packing things up. I figured I'd put a shirt on when I came across the box with my clothes. Once it was located, I dug through it, finally coming across an old comfortable tee shirt. Just as I was about to put it on, a voice from the doorway stopped me.
"Oh, you're going to spoil my show, darling," it said, making me jump and nearly scream. When my wide eyes landed on the person leaning against my door frame, dread settled in my stomach.
"Peter," I scolded. "What the hell are you doing here? How'd you get in the door?!"
"I was let out on good behavior," he said, stepping closer to me. "You leaving town?"
"Yes, I am actually. Moving on, finally."
"I see," Peter replied. His eyes raked over my body, studying the designs on my sides with intrigue. "I didn't know you got tattoos."
"Well, they were after your time," I mumbled, moving to put my shirt on finally. Peter grinned mischievously at me, making me stumble back a step.
"So, you got one for my nephew, and one for the hunter."
"They're to remember them, keep them close to me."
"Well, what about me, darling?" he asked. I swallowed, crossing my arms over my chest.
"You want me to get a tattoo...for you?"
"I think it'd be nice," he said, the tips of his fingers running down my arm and sending shivers up my body. Gathering my courage, I steeled myself against his touch, his presence.
"I'll make sure to put it right over my heart, so I always have a reminder of who put a knife right through it." My words were venomous, laced with fake sincerity. Peter's smirk faltered a bit as he stepped back. I held his gaze, not backing down. He finally cleared his throat, shoving his hands in his pockets and looking around before speaking.
"Well, sweetheart, I'll leave you to it. You probably have a lot to get done." He headed for the door and I watched him go, my gaze boring into his back. "Send me a picture of that tattoo once you get it."
I stood there, staring after he disappeared, before finally moving to close the door and lock it. I leaned against it, taking a deep breath before shaking my head.
"Like I'll ever get a tattoo for you, Peter hale."
