Allison moved through the cafeteria, headed straight for the pack's usual table. The dull roar of hundreds of conversations acted as a background track to her walk as she scanned the mass of students in front of her. She skirted around a crowd of sophomores taking a selfie, taking her time getting to the table.
Last year, she would have found something like that annoying, but now all she felt was a fresh wave of grief. You would have been a sophomore this year if you hadn't pushed Allison out of the way of the Oni's blade at the internment camp eight months ago. You would be alive if you hadn't decided to save her.
You should have been with those girls, laughing and making memories like a normal teenage girl, but instead your life had been stolen from you at fifteen. Allison bit the inside of her cheek, fighting the urge to burst into tears.
Even though it had been almost a year since your death, Allison still carried the guilt of not saving you. You had been her little sister, and she should have protected you, not the other way around. But by the time you were shoving her to the icy ground, the blade had already gone through, and she was helpless to stop the bleeding as you took your last breaths in her arms.
"Allison?" a concerned voice asked. "Are you okay?"
She blinked, looking around and realizing she was now standing at the edge of her usual table, the whole pack staring at her. She swallowed, having not even realized that she had arrived at the table.
"Allison?" Lydia repeated, starting to rise from her seat across from Stiles.
"I'm fine," the brunette assured her, holding out her hands. "You don't have to get up."
She walked to the other end of the table, flushing as she sat down next to Lydia. She peered around the table, relieved to find almost everyone focused back on their food. Everyone except for Scott.
"Are you sure you're okay?" he asked softly. "You can always take a day off if you want. I could drive you home."
"I'm fine," she told him. "I just didn't get a lot of sleep last night."
"Lots of homework?" Kira asked politely.
Allison swallowed thickly, picking at her pasta salad with her fork. She hadn't eaten all day, or last night for that matter, but she just hadn't been hungry. Not with what had happened early yesterday.
"Y/n's grave was robbed," Allison told them softly, pushing her tray away from her.
"What?" Lydia demanded.
"Oh my god," Scott breathed. "Do they know who did it?"
"No," Allison whispered, finally breaking down. "And I don't know if it has something to do with what's going on, or why it was her grave or-or-"
Lydia placed a hand on her shoulder and gripped Allison's trembling hands. "Hey, hey, it's okay. We're going to find out who did this and we're going to find her."
"Of course we are," Scott said. "We'll go looking tonight."
"But what about the chimeras?" Allison asked. "We've got enough to worry about."
"Y/n is more important," Scott promised. "We'll find her Allison. I swear to god, we'll find her."
"Okay," Scott announced as the pack stood at the entrance to the graveyard. "We're gonna go in to catch the scent, and fan out in two different directions. Malia and Kira, you can go south with Allison. Isaac and Liam, you're going to be going north with me. If anyone sees anything weird or something that might tell us who did this or where we can find Y/n's body, call okay?"
"Wait, where's Lydia?" Isaac asked. "If she's the banshee, shouldn't she be helping us find the dead body?"
"She's back at the station with Stiles," Scott said softly, noticing the way Allison flinched when Isaac said "dead body".
"If she feels something she'll give us a call, but right now they're going through some old case files to see if this is part of a pattern. Everyone ready?"
Allison gripped her bow tightly, unable to ignore the fact that this situation was frighteningly similar to how they had stood at the gates to Oak Creek. You, Scott, Kira, Isaac, Stiles and Allison had all stood outside the camp, ready to defeat the nogitsune and get Lydia back. Now it was their turn to get you back.
"Allison?" Kira asked gently, placing a hand on the hunter's shoulder. "Are you sure you want to do this? If we find her body-"
"I'm sure," Allison told her firmly. "I need to do this."
"Alright, then," Scott said to everyone. "Let's go."
"I think I have something," Malia said as Allison and Kira trailed behind her in the thick woods behind the graveyard. "It smells kind of like her, but it's not normal."
"Not normal?" Allison asked. "How?"
"Well, if she's dead she should smell dead," Malia told her bluntly. "Whatever I smell isn't dead."
"Then it's not her," Allison stated, swallowing thickly. "Maybe we should just go back and start over."
Kira nodded, knowing it was probably better for Allison anyway. She grabbed the girl's wrist, gently tugging her back towards the rendezvous point when Malia suddenly held up a hand.
"Wait," the coyote ordered, holding up a hand. "I hear something, but I can't tell where it's coming from."
"Split up?" Allison suggested.
"Is that really a good idea?" Kira asked nervously.
"We can all protect ourselves, right Malia?"
The coyote nodded and Allison turned back to Kira. "See? We'll just scream if there's trouble."
Allison knew that it probably wasn't a wise idea to split up, but she needed to find your body, and she needed to find whoever did this. While your funeral hadn't exactly provided her much closure, she couldn't let you be restless. Having someone dig up your grave felt like losing you all over again, and she needed to make sure someone paid for it.
She crunched through the dead leaves, pulling an arrow from her quiver and notching it in her bow just in case anything happened. Her eyes scanned the darkness in front of her, and she was just beginning to feel like she was being watched when a sharp growl came from behind her.
She whirled around, raising her bow as she saw a shape coming towards her in the darkness. She fought the urge to release her arrow, knowing she couldn't just shoot blindly. The last time that had happened, she had almost killed Lydia.
"Stay back," she warned, keeping her arrow pointed at the figure.
She backed up as the thing ignored her warning, her eyes widening as it passed into a patch of moonlight. She let out a gasp, half-believing she was trapped in some sort of horrifying nightmare. "Y-Y/n?"
You were right there in front of her, living and breathing, but something wasn't right about you. Allison could tell you couldn't recognize her, and it had nothing to do with lack of daylight. Suddenly, you let out an inhuman snarl, and Allison caught a glimpse of your supernaturally sharp teeth.
"No," she whispered, realizing you were one of the chimeras. "No."
You walked towards her, nothing but malice in your eyes and you continued to move closer.
"Y/n," she said slowly, taking a hesitant step closer. "Y/n, it's me. It's Allison."
You froze for a second, and Allison was sure you recognized her. But as she stepped forward, you lashed out, slicing at her shirt with your claws. She let out a shocked scream, stumbling back and falling flat on the ground.
"Please," she begged from a bed of dead leaves. "Please, Y/n it's me!"
You let out a sharp growl, raising your claws and getting ready to attack her again when suddenly a snarling shape slammed into you.
"I got her," Malia growled, her blue eyes flashing as she took you to the ground. She slammed you into a nearby tree, dropping you into the grass, but that still didn't stop you. You got back up, more angrier than ever and ran at Malia.
She let out a challenging roar, continuing to fight until Allison started screaming.
"Stop!" she ordered as Malia pinned you to the ground by your throat. "Stop, Malia that's her! It's Y/n, please just-just don't hurt her!"
But she didn't stop, and both you and Malia continued to fight as Allison screamed frantically in the background. To her, the fighting seemed to last for hours and it only stopped when a deafening roar sounded from the edge of the trees.
It was loud enough to knock both you and Malia off your feet, sending you to the forest floor while you covered your ears. Allison jumped up to go to your side immediately, but Scott held up a hand, silently pleading for her to wait.
Malia got off the ground and let out a low growl, glaring at you as you pushed yourself off the ground, suddenly incredibly confused.
You peered around at the people in front of you, assessing any possible threat. There was the tall brunette with the short hair, the girl who had tried to kill you. Then there was the tall boy with the dark hair and the loud roar, the one who had knocked you to the ground with just his voice. There was a tiny Asian girl who carried a sword, standing next to an incredibly tall boy with curly hair, and shorter boy with pretty blue eyes.
Last of all, there was the dark-haired girl you were pretty sure you had just tried to attack. She was staring at you with wide, confused eyes, as if she wasn't sure what was going on. You had been so sure you didn't know her, but there was something in her gaze that made you question your certainty.
The dark haired boy, the one the doctors had called the alpha walked forward. "Y/n?" he asked softly.
You blinked, looking up at him with hesitation. You didn't know much about yourself, only that you had died and that since the dread doctors had brought you back to life, you owed them. You had no idea where you came from, of if you had a family or any friends, and the only thing they had told you was your name. The doctors had ordered you to help them destroy a pack, and that was what you were here to do.
You had assumed that everyone in this place was a stranger, but yet the the alpha seemed to know you. In fact, all of them seemed to know you, and you figured that it was probably the most awful feeling in the world to not know who you are.
You nodded as the boy said your name, and you saw him shoot a look over his shoulder at the girl holding the bow. It was a small look, but you caught it anyway.
"Do you know what happened to you, Y/n?" the alpha asked you, turning back to you.
You bit your lip, a gesture that was familiar and comforting to you. Everyone was staring at you, as if waiting for an answer, but what could you tell them when you yourself had no idea?
You shook your head softly at his words, suddenly feeling incredibly ashamed.
"I don't even know who I am."
