"I don't see the point of playing chess." She lifted her head from the board and gave Lydia an annoyed look. She already knew Lydia was ten times smarter than her - she didn't need the reminder.
Lydia moved a knight with an annoyed sigh. "It's to keep you calm. I'm tired of hearing you crack your knuckles."
She sat a little straighter. "Oh, that's smart." Lydia made a face. "What time is it? Isn't practice suppose to be over at four?" The red-head sighed again but glanced at her phone nonetheless.
"They should be done in ten. As long as Coach doesn't hold them."
By then, she had completely forgotten about the game. The fact that she'd have to tell Liam that she might be pregnant in less than ten minutes, easily riled her back up. "Lydia, I don't want to tell him. I mean, this is bad! I always said how annoying those girls on 16 and Pregnant were but now I might be one of those girls!" Lydia reached over to grab her wrists whilst looking very pissed off.
"Honey, stop with the damn cracking!" She lowered her head and hadn't even realized that she had been cracking her fingers. She made a face and mumbled an apology. Lydia reluctantly released her hands. "You'll be fine, alright? Sure, he might be a little freaked out but you'll have the rest of the pack too."
She slowly nodded. She knew the pack wouldn't ever abandon her - especially Lydia and Scott. They were like older siblings to her. "You're right," she agreed and took a breath. She could hear the noise of the lacrosse team coming closer. It was showtime. Lydia touched her arm.
"You got this. You'll be fine, I promise." She nodded in thanks.
Her heart rate couldn't be healthy. She hadn't ever heard it beat so rapidly before. Of course, it only increased more when her boyfriend came into view. He easily caught her breath with a wife beater and Adidas joggers on. You can do this. She knew she was picking at her nails as her eyes caught Liam's and when he smiled, guilt weighed heavily in her chest. She could very well be ruining his life.
Liam nudged Scott and mumbled something before jogging to her side. She hesitantly smiled as he pressed a kiss against her temple. "What's up? I thought we were meeting at Lydia's for movie night."
"I know. I just-," she paused and took a quick breath. She could do this. She just had to get it out. "Liam, I might be pregnant."
Silence followed. At first, she felt as if she should say something else but at the sight of his face going extremely paled, she gave him a few seconds to think. She continued picking at her nails nervously and carefully watched his face. Unfortunately, it didn't give much away about what he was thinking.
Finally, he spoke. "Might?"
"Might," she agreed and offered a small smile. The fact that it was all in the open gave her some kind of relief. "I haven't taken a test yet. I was planning to at Lydia's tonight. It's just that my period was suppose to come a week ago and well, it hasn't." Liam slowly nodded and switched what hand he held his lacrosse stick in.
She wasn't sure how to feel when he smiled. "Well, let's go to Lydia's then. We'll take it from there, alright?" The feeling that weighed heavy on her shoulders lightened a fraction.
"You.. Aren't mad?"
Liam frowned. "Why would I be mad? This is my fault too, y'know. We're in this together, right?" If she hadn't been in love before, (though she's pretty sure she was) she definitely was now.
She stood in the bathroom on the first-floor of Lydia's house, leaning against the white sink as she waited for the stick. She half-wished that she had said "yes" when Lydia asked if she wanted her to stay.
Of course, she could hear her along with Liam, Scott, Stiles and Allison hovering outside the bathroom impatiently. She could tell they were trying to be quiet but even for two werewolves, they weren't very good at it.
Five minutes later, someone lightly tapped the wooden door. "Hon? Everything good?"
"I want Liam," she instantly replied. It didn't take them long to react considering she could easily hear someone barking at him "to get the hell in there" that oddly sounded like Stiles. There was a loud bang and Liam was shuffling inside the spacious bathroom. If it had been any other situation, she would laughed at his expression. He smiled nervously, his skin pale and his eyes wide with fear.
She couldn't help her smile when he tucked himself against her. He instinctively curved his arm around her waist and leaned his head on her shoulder to tuck his nose against her neck. At one time, he had confessed that her scent calmed him and that was where it was most clear. She didn't even need to hear him ask when. "One minute."
Liam released a breath and her fingers dug into the curves of the sink. She hoped it was negative. She didn't need to have a child, especially at their age. She wasn't in the position to fend for herself and a child. Hell, she just got her license!
When the screen slowly began forming a sign, both of their breaths caught. When the tiny, black negative mark appeared, they both released a relieved sigh. She was good, she wasn't pregnant. Liam lifted his head and instantly, she pulled him closer to tuck her head on his shoulder. They were safe, they were okay.
"Well, guys? Am I gonna be an uncle or not?"
With a sigh and after disposing the test in the trash, (wrapping it in toilet paper so Lydia's mother didn't have a heart attack) they stepped out of the bathroom. "Sorry, Stiles." Lydia was the first to react. She brightly smiled and tugged both of them against her chest in a tight hug. Scott and Allison quickly joined whilst Stiles pouted.
"Man, I was gonna get him some nice, plaid shirts so we would match."
They all lightly laughed. The air around them all had gotten so much lighter and easier. All of them breathed a little easier. Liam leaned back to look at his girlfriend with a smile. "One day, Stiles. Not today but one day."
She smiled and nodded in agreement.
