Bethany's P.O.V

Ready to meet up? ;)

I bite my lip at Jesse's text.

I sling my white bag over my shoulder and drop my school bag filled with my school uniform, books and laptop into Mom’s LandRover before closing the door, locking the car and quickly dashing back inside the shop to give the keys to Mom.

‘Be back before eight...its a school night,’ Mom says taking the keys from me and sticking them in her back pocket.

‘Will do, bye! ’ I say, quickly, bouncing on the balls of my feet, anxiously and turning around before Mom pulls me back my the strap of my bag.

‘Seriously, Bethany. Be back before eight. I mean it, you need your sleep, you’re a growing girl,’ Mom says, her tone serious but at the same time, I know she’s saying it in a “You’re a growing girl who needs her sleep” voice just to embarrass me.

‘Yes, Mom...I know,’ I say, flicking her off.

‘Wow...who’s this guy...you’re enthusiastic this afternoon.’ Mom says, raising her thin blonde eyebrows at me and giving me a sheepish grin.

‘Err...yeah. I gotta go...bye,’

‘Come on...what’s his name?’ she says, her grin spreading wider across her face as my cheeks grow red and hot.

‘No one, just a friend,’ I say through my teeth, trying to shrug her off again.

‘Jacob Phoenix, was it not?’ She asks.

‘No! It’s Jesse. J-e-s-s-e...’ I correct her and then I slap my forehead. ‘Damn it,’ I mumble as Mom pulls out her iPhone from her black apron pocket and her long flour covered fingers start tapping the screen.

‘Mom! Don’t look him up on Facebook!’ I complain, taking her iPhone off her and closing the safari window. ' You won't find him anyway!'

She stares skeptically at me. ‘I’m only kidding, sweetheart,’ she says, holding out her hand. I place the iPhone hesitantly on her palm.

Mom laughs. ‘See you, cookie,’ She says.

‘Mooom!’ I whine, softly and she chuckles merrily, tucking her iPhone back in her pocket and walking back over to the counter.

Mom’s nickname for me is cookie. Don’t ask me why, I have no idea but even now when I’m turning 17, she has stuck by that name ever since I was three.

I dash back outside and I swiftly make my way down the road towards Freezies Ice-Cream Parlour.

The sun has already started to set, well...it’s 5:45 and if I am going to do this Jesse thing, I’d need to be there ASAP.

I know I probably shouldn’t be meeting up with Jesse Phoenix.

One, because I practically don’t know him. Yeah, we shared that stupid and worthless dance at his concert and yeah, we were texting for almost an hour and fifteen last night but I don’t know him at all.

And two, he could just be some random stalker who got my number and is waiting for me to turn up before kidnapping me and raping me...

Sheesh, now I’m scared.

Mom told me about that. Never go out with someone you do not know -- especially at night. She told me about all those murders that happen with silly girls who go out with strangers at night who claim to be a sexy teenager but are really just cranky old men desperate for a physical relationship.
